Job Description
The Security Officer provides a safe environment for patients, visitors, employees, and volunteers in an office or ambulatory clinic setting. Responsibilities include monitoring visitor or patient activity, surveilling premises, enforcing policy, providing assistance and direction, responding to emergencies, and protecting employees, visitors, and Intermountain property.
Per Diem / PRN PositionThis is a per diem/PRN role.
Essential Functions- Operates and monitors security technology systems, including surveillance cameras, access control systems, and alarm systems, ensuring proper functioning and maintenance.
- Employs de‑escalation techniques to calm individuals and resolve conflicts peacefully, minimizing the need for physical force.
- Intervenes with violent or aggressive patients, using physical restraints when necessary to protect all parties.
- Ensures regulatory compliance, such as HIPAA, when reporting crimes or incidents, disclosing only the minimum necessary information to law enforcement.
- Responds to bomb threats or suspicious packages following established protocols.
- Participates in drills such as infant abduction and active shooter scenarios to prepare staff for real‑life situations.
- Conducts respectful and safe searches of patients, including narcotics searches, ensuring legal compliance.
- Performs safety inspections of walking surfaces, fire extinguishers, and overall facility safety to mitigate risks.
- Enforces parking regulations to ensure safety and accessibility, enhancing the patient experience.
- Collaborates with HR and law enforcement to conduct investigations, following protocols for disclosing patient information and ensuring facility safety.

- Current driver’s license (if applicable).
- Current Basic Life Support (BLS) certification for healthcare providers or willingness to obtain within 90 days of hire.
- At least 21 years of age.
- One year of previous law enforcement, corrections, public safety, military police, or security experience.
- Ongoing need to see and read information, labels, monitors, and equipment, and to assess customer needs.
- Frequent customer interactions requiring communication and quick, accurate understanding of spoken information, alarms, and needs.
- Manual dexterity of hands and fingers to manipulate complex and delicate equipment with precision and accuracy.
- Ability to lift and transport items, pull, push equipment, and work on hands and knees, bending to set‑up, troubleshoot, lift, and carry supplies of varying weights, including heavy items.
- For driving roles, ability to drive safely while seeing and reading traffic signs and signals.
Intermountain Medical Center, Murray, Utah
Scheduled Weekly Hours0 hours per week (per diem/PRN).
Hourly Range$20.45 – $27.04, dependent on experience.
