Overview

The Carpenter is responsible for building, fabricating, and installing high-quality scenic elements, décor, furniture, and custom pieces for events and productions. This role requires strong craftsmanship, the ability to execute projects from start to finish, and a commitment to maintaining a safe, organized, and efficient workshop environment. The Carpenter supports the daily workflow of the Fabrication Shop and on-site event installations as needed.

Responsibilities

Essential job duties for this position include the following. Additional duties may be assigned as required.

  • Operate standard shop tools including table saws, routers, sanders, pneumatics, and various hand and power tools.
  • Measure, cut, shape, and assemble materials according to project specifications.
  • Execute carpentry projects from start to finish, including framing, assembly, finishing, and painting.
  • Assist with welding, fabrication, and specialty builds as needed.
  • Read and interpret shop drawings, build plans, and fabrication instructions.
  • Maintain a clean, organized, and safe work environment.
  • Support the fabrication team in preparing materials and components for upcoming builds.
  • Assist with loading, unloading, and staging materials for projects.
  • Perform on-site installation of event décor including furniture, pipe and drape, scenic elements, lighting, floral structures, and custom pieces.
  • Drive company vehicles, including vans, SUVs, and box trucks up to 26’, and haul trailers up to 16’.
  • Participate in continuous improvement efforts for shop processes, build quality, and production efficiency.
  • Stay current with changing tools, fabrication techniques, and job-specific software.
  • Uphold and promote all company policies and procedures.
Supervisory Responsibilities

This position has no supervisory responsibilities.

Qualifications

To perform this job successfully, an individual must be able to perform each essential duty satisfactorily. The requirements listed below represent the minimum knowledge, skills, and abilities required.

Education/Experience
  • Associate’s degree (AA) or equivalent from a two-year college or technical school; or
  • Six months to one year of related carpentry or fabrication experience; or
  • Equivalent combination of education and experience.
Language Skills
  • Ability to read and interpret safety rules, operating instructions, and procedure manuals.
  • Ability to write routine reports and basic documentation.
  • Ability to communicate effectively with team members and supervisors.
Mathematical Skills
  • Ability to calculate measurements, proportions, percentages, area, circumference, and volume.
  • Ability to apply basic algebra and geometry to carpentry tasks.
Reasoning Ability
  • Ability to solve practical problems and adapt to changing project requirements.
  • Ability to interpret written, verbal, diagram, or schedule-based instructions.
