The City of Murrieta is accepting applications for the Librarian I/II position to fill one current vacancy for the Murrieta Public Library Divisions – Youth Services. The position is open for one year on an eligibility list.
Librarian I – $6,251 – $7,599 Monthly.
Librarian II – $6,901 – $8,388 Monthly.
- Develop, facilitate, and provide a full range of library services, programs, and outreach primarily for youth aged 0‑12 in the community.
- Plan and deliver programming for children; provide reference and reader’s advisory services.
- Support collection development and cataloging; foster warm, inviting connections with children, caregivers, and community partners through outreach and engagement.
- Plan and run projects that meet evolving community needs and technology changes.
- Provide guidance and training to lower level staff and volunteers.
- Assist in collection development activities including material selection, weeding, and periodical selection.
- Maintain and troubleshoot electronic and online resources; prepare library activity reports and statistics.
- Participate in meetings, committees, professional development, and community outreach.
- Perform volunteer coordination and leadership responsibilities.
- Adhere to City safety rules and federal/state/local laws.
- Other duties as assigned related to library operations.
- Provide reference and readers advisory services, assistance with research, and library instruction.
- Develop and evaluate library services and programs.
- Catalog and index a variety of print and digital materials.
- Manage acquisitions and lending activities.
- Plan and supervise volunteer programs.
- Use computer systems, software applications, and digital tools to support library services.
- Respond to user inquiries, patron requests, and community needs.
- Prepare reports and statistical summaries on library usage.
- Support departmental and citywide service improvement initiatives.
Education: Master’s degree in Library Science or equivalent credential.
Experience: Minimum of 2 years of professional librarian experience for Librarian II; equivalent experience for Librarian I.
Licenses &
Certifications:
Reliable transportation to attend city meetings and site visits; ability to obtain a valid driver’s license if required.
Physical Demands: Standard office duties with occasional lifting of up to 50 pounds.
