Food Quality Inspector

Food Quality Inspector – Murrieta, CA

Pay Rate: $23.00 – $25.00 per hour

Shift: Monday – Friday, 7:00 AM to 4:30 PM

This role maintains production cleanliness, ensures high quality standards, and controls avocado ripening to deliver consistent, customer‑ready fruit.

• Execute the avocado ripening process using data‑driven decision making.
• Evaluate fruit condition, determine product disposition, and ensure consistency across pallets and shipments.
• Plan, direct, execute, and adjust ripening processes based on forecasted needs and real‑time feedback.
• Establish and maintain ripening schedules, monitor room performance, and adjust settings based on fruit response.
• Coordinate closely with planning and operations teams on product readiness and availability.
• Perform firmness (PSI) testing with a penetrometer and use results to make decisions on segregation, blending, or release.
• Reorganize and rebuild pallets; transfer cases between pallets to balance firmness variability.
• Collect representative samples from multiple pallet positions, including upper rack levels with ladder use.
• Operate forklifts to load/unload ripe rooms, move inventory, and support pallet adjustments.
• Set and adjust ripening room conditions, including temperature schedules, and monitor fruit response.
• Maintain accurate daily inventory records showing fruit stage, room status, and product readiness.
• Complete and document quality evaluations of inbound and outbound products; identify and report off‑spec items.
• Communicate clearly with internal teams regarding inventory levels, fruit readiness, risks, and quality concerns.
• Prepare and review reports on ripening performance, PSI trends, and product outcomes; take corrective action as needed.
• Perform other duties as assigned.
• Work weekends as required.

• High School Diploma or equivalent.
• 1–2 years of experience in quality control, produce handling, or ripening.
• Forklift experience required.
• Experience using measurement tools and making data‑based decisions (penetrometer/PSI preferred).
• Strong multitasking and prioritization skills in a fast‑paced environment.
• Ability to work independently and make decisions with minimal supervision.
• Strong organizational, analytical, and decision‑making skills.
• Strong verbal and written communication skills.
• Basic computer skills.
• Experience with perishable goods preferred.
• Comfortable with changing priorities and variable product conditions.
• Highly organized with strong attention to detail.

• Frequent standing, walking, bending; repetitive hand use for testing, sorting, and handling.
• Climb ladders and work at elevated rack levels to collect samples.
• Lift and carry loads up to 80 lb, with or without assistance.
• Work among moving machinery, forklifts, stacked pallets, in high‑traffic areas.
• Operate in cold (≈ 38 °F) and warm, humid ripening conditions.
• Exposure to noise, moisture, and sanitation chemicals.
