2. Position PurposeThe Career Guidance Specialist is fully responsible for planning, delivering, and managing the University’s career guidance and career development services for students and recent graduates.
The role supports informed career decision‑making, employability readiness, and transition to work or further study, in alignment with University policies, labour market needs, and accreditation requirements.
3.Key Responsibilities 3.1 Career Guidance & Advising
- Plan, deliver, and manage career guidance services for students and recent graduates.
- Provide individual and group career guidance sessions covering career exploration, goal setting, and career pathways.
- Support students in identifying strengths, interests, and suitable career options.
- Advise on further study, professional development, and alternative career pathways where appropriate.
- Design and deliver career development workshops and programs, including:
- CV and cover letter preparation
- Interview skills and assessment center preparation
- Job search strategies and professional behavior
- Support development of transferable skills and workplace readiness.
- Coordinate career‑related awareness sessions in collaboration with academic units.
- Maintain awareness of labour market trends, employer expectations, and emerging career opportunities.
- Support coordination of career fairs, employer talks, and career awareness events.
- Liase with employers and partners on career guidance–related activities, as directed.
- Provide students with up‑to‑date career and labour market information.
- Develop and maintain career guidance resources, tools, and materials.
- Maintain records of career guidance activities, student engagement, and outcomes.
- Ensure accessibility of career information through appropriate platforms.
- Monitor utilization, effectiveness, and outcomes of career guidance services.
- Prepare reports, summaries, and performance data for management review.
- Maintain documentation and evidence for self-study and accreditation reporting
. - Identify gaps and recommend improvements to career guidance services.
- Operates with full operational responsibility for career guidance services within the approved scope.
- Has authority to plan and deliver career guidance programs and activities inline with approved procedures.
- Has no independent financial approval authority beyond approved limits.
- Recommends service enhancements, initiatives, and corrective actions to the Manager.
- Financial authority strictly as defined in the Delegation of Authorities Matrix and approved Financial Policies.
- Number and quality of career guidance sessions delivered.
- Student participation and satisfaction with career guidance services.
- Effectiveness of employability skills programs.
- Accuracy and completeness of records and reports.
- Compliance with policies and accreditation documentation requirements.
- Bachelor’s degree in Career Guidance, Psychology, Education, Human Resources, Business Administration, or a related field.
- Professional certification in career guidance or counselling is an advantage.
- Minimum 3 years of relevant experience in career guidance, career counselling, employability support, or higher education student services.
- Proven experience in independently delivering guidance sessions or employability programs.
- Strong career counselling and guidance skills.
- Excellent communication and interpersonal abilities.
- Ability to work independently and manage multiple initiatives.
- Good understanding of labour market trends and employability requirements.
- Student‑focused, ethical, and confidential approach.
