Job Overview
The Electrician Helper is responsible for the inspection, maintenance, and field repair of all electrical equipment on the rig, logistics equipment, and camp in accordance with Nabors Rig Management System (RMS). Nabors is a leading provider of advanced technology for the energy industry, operating in about 20 countries with a global network to deploy safe, efficient, and responsible hydrocarbon production solutions.
Responsibilities- Inspect, maintain, and repair electrical equipment on rig, logistics equipment, and camp.
- Carry out unscheduled repairs and schedule major overhauls with Rig Manager, Driller, and Rig Mechanic.
- Ensure availability of spare parts through inventory system and manage inventory of spares and replacement parts with Warehouseman.
- Conduct visual and functional inspections of equipment before use and at periodic intervals, especially after rig moves and rig‑up.
- Enact the planned maintenance program for rig and camp electrical equipment and instrumentation.
- Maintain and update electrical drawings and wiring diagrams; keep documentation, certificates, and reports accurate and timely.
- Comply fully with lock‑out and tag‑out procedures at rig site and campsite.
- Supervise the dismantling, packaging, and preparation of electrical equipment for rig moves, including re‑assembly at new locations.
- Supervise the activities of the Rig Welder and Motorman.
- Work with Driller and crew to operate rig within design parameters and RMS requirements.
- Establish a culture of continuous improvement, develop improved practices, and demonstrate results.
- Maintain cleanliness of SCR house and integrity of electrical control equipment.
- Prepare rig and camp equipment for stacking out when required, and contribute to stack‑out report.
- Coordinate with third‑party service companies for electrical supplies and provide emergency repairs where possible.
- Provide on‑the‑job training for Electrical Helpers.
- 0–2 years of experience with equipment similar to that used on the rig, with at least 12 months experience with drive systems if rig is so equipped.
- Experience with USCG regulations on electrical systems and wiring requirements for MODU classed units.
- Ability to wear respiratory protective devices and use personal protective equipment correctly.
- Commitment to personal safety and demonstration of leadership in HSE; participation in safety meetings and safety program.
- Valid personal certification and training; willingness to keep training records current.
