What We NeedWe are looking for a Supply Chain Category Manager to join our HNI Workplace Furnishings - Operations team. The ideal candidate will develop and execute sourcing strategies that align with business goals, drive supplier performance, and deliver value through negotiation, risk management, and continuous improvement. The role requires strong analytical, project management, and cross-functional leadership skills to optimize procurement and operations in a fast‑paced, complex supply chain environment.
WhatYou Will Do
- Integrate customer needs and decision criteria into category strategies to deliver innovative, value‑driven solutions
- Use advanced analytical and problem‑solving skills, supported by e‑Procurement tools, ERP systems, and Microsoft Office, to drive data‑informed decisions
- Negotiate contracts, pricing, and disputes cross‑functionally to secure favorable terms and mitigate risk
- Assess operational and financial supply chain risks to ensure continuity, cost efficiency, and strategic alignment
- Drive supplier performance through tiered management, supplier development, and continuous improvement initiatives
- Apply strong project management skills, LEAN manufacturing principles, and material replenishment models to optimize cost, inventory, working capital, and space
- Lead and develop teams, navigating a fast‑paced environment, while partnering cross‑functionally to advance category strategy and delivery results.
- Bachelor's degree strongly preferred, with at least 5 years of relevant experience required and 7+ years preferred.
- IMS or other supply chain/procurement certifications preferred.
- Alternatively, at least 10 years of relevant experience may be considered in lieu of a degree.
- Demonstrated expertise in LEAN manufacturing principles, ERP systems, and Microsoft Office, with the ability to apply these tools effectively in complex business environments
- Advanced communication capabilities across multiple formats, including policy deployment, public speaking, writing, meetings, and digital communication, combined with active listening and sound judgment
- Proven history of structured problem‑solving and decision‑making, balancing analysis with action to develop and implement effective solutions aligned with organizational goals
- Strong organizational awareness and relationship‑building skills, including the ability to influence without authority, leverage diverse networks, lead teams, and act strategically within the company's framework
