Muscatine Schools is hiring a Special Ed Bus Aide. The role involves working with special education students, providing general supervision, and supporting transportation services. Additional responsibilities may include other tasks as needed.
Pay: $17.93 per hour.
New hires must complete a background check and onboarding/training session with the Department of Human Resources. Contact MCSD Department of Human Resources at 563‑263‑7223.
Minimum Qualifications- High school diploma or GED.
- Bilingual preferred or highly desirable.
- Physical capacity to assist students, including lifting as required.

Knowledge,Skills and Abilities
- Excellent communication skills, written and oral.
- Computer proficient with appropriate software.
- Experience working with challenged students.
- Self‑starter able to help students become more self‑sufficient and/or successful.
- Physically able to assist students.
- Comfortable with student equipment, including computers, wheelchairs, health, and mobilizer devices.
- Regular attendance to ensure consistency with students.
- Knowledge of building and school bus safety procedures.
- Knowledge of building and school alarm systems.
- Genuine liking of children and enjoyment of working with young people.
- Tolerance of occasional bad language, threats of physical violence or personal habits of students.
- Patience to avoid discouragement.
- Willingness to assume responsibility.
- Ability to help students become part of the class.
- Human relations and interpersonal skills.
- Confidentiality of all information.
- Ability to work well with others.

Physical DemandsThe employee must frequently stand, walk, use hands to handle objects, talk and hear. The employee must squat, stoop, kneel, reach above the head and forward 0‑24 inches and on occasion up to 36 inches. The employee may need to grasp objects with hand strength and may need to lift and/or move up to 50 pounds 0‑12 feet and occasionally up to 20 feet.
The employee may push/pull items such as tables and carts. Specific vision abilities include close vision, color vision and ability to adjust focus while supervising students and working with computers and written materials.
The work environment is usually quiet. The position may require extended hours beyond a typical 8:00 a.m. to 4:00 p.m. workday. The employee will work in various classroom areas, standing, moving, supervising indoor and outdoor activities. Indoor temperature is typical but the employee will work outdoors when supervising students outside the classroom.
