We are seeking a Senior Water Resources Engineer to lead a team of engineers in the technical analysis, hydrologic and hydraulic modeling of existing and proposed river and site projects. Responsibilities include design, preparation of construction documents, reports, and cost estimates for water resources, federal, environmental, structural, and energy projects. The role requires project development—including hydrologic and hydraulic analysis, 1‑D and 2‑D river and flood modeling, ponding and detention area sizing and design, stream bank stabilization, civil design layout, grading and drainage, utility layout, and low impact development feature layout—and project management skills to work directly with clients.
Field work, domestic and international travel may be required. The ideal candidate will also mentor junior engineers and technical staff, with opportunities to grow into task or project management and/or team leadership roles.
- Lead the preparation of hydrologic and hydraulic modeling tasks, including model set‑up, guiding the team, and reviewing model work produced by others.
- Collaborate with other disciplines (civil, mechanical, electrical, I&C, structural, and CAD) to produce plans and specifications.
- Consistently manage and deliver projects on time and within budget.
- Manage and mentor staff.
- Participate in local professional organizations and prepare market‑specific papers and presentations.
- Bachelor of Science degree in Civil Engineering or a closely related discipline.
- At least 8 years of relevant experience.
- Licensed Professional Engineer (PE).
- Experience with 1‑D and 2‑D hydraulic/hydrologic modeling, including HEC‑RAS, PC‑SWMM, Hydro
CAD, or equivalent software. - Comprehensive knowledge of water resources engineering analysis and design, with the ability to lead project development and determine solutions to meet client needs.
- Strong verbal, written, and organizational skills.
- Excellent technical writing and team leadership skills.
- Active participation in professional organizations.
- Working knowledge of Auto Desk Civil 3D and/or Bentley Micro Station.
- Experience with site grading, surface runoff management, detention design, and conveyance.
$122,300 - $160,850 a year (range for IL and MN locations)
