Overview
Environmental Lead is responsible for leading technical work related to the Environmental Department to ensure compliance with local, state, and federal environmental regulatory requirements and implementation of related programs integral to supporting plant and manufacturing operations. Provides guidance and expertise to the manufacturing site, and fosters a safe climate for the employees, community, and the environment to maintain our freedom to operate.
The position also serves as the energy manager for the site overseeing sustainability efforts.
The Environmental Lead supports the implementation and execution of environmental programs integral to the system robustness of those programs. The position also provides technical and compliance support for the Muscatine manufacturing plant, including support for new processes, process modifications, and plant experiments.
Key Tasks and Responsibilities- Provide technical oversight ensuring plant compliance with legal and other requirements such as local, state, and federal environmental regulations and Corporate HSE guidelines.
- Contribute significant technical improvements and efficiencies at the site.
- Mentor engineers in the department or site.
- Assist the Environmental Team in interpreting and implementing regulatory and internal requirements and ensuring that the plant understands those requirements.
- Provide leadership on addressing noncompliance situations; work with agencies, corporate HSE and legal to resolve.
- Audit site environmental programs and serve as an auditor during internal regional compliance audits and global management system audits.
- Ensure regulatory reports, permit applications, etc. are submitted accurately and in a timely manner.
- Lead the development and implementation of environmental programs (management systems) through influence.
- Support the analysis and resolution of minor operation interruptions and upsets related to environmental issues.
- Support and network with Corporate Environmental team.
- Provide support and leadership for SSHE Key Performance Indicators (KPIs).
- Serve as the energy manager for the site and help the site achieve sustainability goals.
- BS degree in Chemical or Environmental Engineering or related discipline.
- 7 years of progressive engineering experience or MS in Chemical or Environmental Engineering or related discipline and 4 years of progressive engineering experience.
- Experience providing environmental support for chemical manufacturing facility.
- Experience with Federal and other states regulations with a focus on Iowa.
- Broad based technical or specialized knowledge in one or more environmental media (air, water, waste).
- Strong personal initiative, basic knowledge of environmental and chemical engineering principles, the ability to establish and maintain positive relationships with regulatory personnel.
- Proficiency with Microsoft Office Programs.
