Position Title: Environmental Coordinator

Wage: Based on Experience

Accelerate Professional Talent Solutions is seeking an experienced Environmental Coordinator to support environmental compliance and management system activities at a manufacturing facility in Muscatine, Iowa.

The Environmental Coordinator works closely with operations staff, engineering personnel, and management to ensure compliance with all applicable environmental regulations and the company's Environmental Management System (EMS), certified to the ISO 14001 Standard. This position will also provide environmental support to other company facilities as directed by the Environmental Manager.

Environmental Coordinator Responsibilities:
  • Support facility environmental compliance activities as required by permits and written programs through regular communication with operations and engineering personnel, as well as routine inspections of manufacturing operations and other assigned facilities
  • Provide support to operations in meeting environmental management requirements, including incident investigations, training and communications, inspections and audits, hazard assessments, and implementation of regulatory requirements
  • Manage documentation required by environmental permits, regulatory standards, and company-specific programs, including air emission records, waste manifests, Discharge Monitoring Reports, inspection records, and related documentation
  • Maintain and update written procedures within the company's ISO 14001 Environmental Management System
  • Support implementation of the EMS, including training requirements, monitoring and auditing activities, and corrective actions
  • Collect environmental data and conduct sampling and inspections necessary to complete regulatory reports
  • Assist the Environmental Manager in preparing and submitting required environmental reports to local, state, and federal regulatory agencies
  • Verify the status of Safety Data Sheets (SDS) for products used by operations to ensure compliance with chemical inventory, reporting, spill response, and notification requirements
  • Attend professional training programs, business association meetings, and environmental committee meetings as appropriate
  • Serve as the on-site coordinator in the event of a reportable environmental incident and function as the Emergency Coordinator for environmental incidents in the absence of the Environmental Manager
  • Conduct periodic on-site audits of contractors and contractor facilities to ensure compliance with company requirements and procedures
  • Serve as the primary point of contact for local, state, or federal regulatory inspections in the absence of the Environmental Manager
  • Perform routine inspections and audits of operations to verify compliance with environmental regulations, permits, and internal programs
Requirements for Environmental Coordinator:
  • Bachelor of Science degree in Environmental Sciences, Natural Sciences, Environmental Engineering, or a related environmental field
  • Minimum of four (4) years of experience managing a comprehensive environmental compliance program
  • Strong knowledge of applicable environmental regulations and compliance requirements
  • Ability to effectively communicate and collaborate with operations, engineering, management, contractors, and regulatory agencies
  • Minimum of seven (7) years of experience managing a comprehensive environmental compliance program preferred
  • Experience with air, water, and waste permitting is a plus
  • Prior experience working in a heavy manufacturing environment is a plus
  • Experience working with an ISO 14001 Environmental Management System preferred
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Excel, Word, SharePoint, and PowerPoint is a plus
  • Experience with Minitab or similar data analysis tools preferred
