MECHANICAL SPECIALIST I (Finance)

Our Consumer Brands team at the KENT WORLDWIDE Pet Plant is looking for a motivated Mechanical Specialist I to help keep our operations running smoothly and efficiently. In this role, you'll respond to mechanical needs throughout the plant, working under the guidance of a Level II or Level III Mechanical Specialist. You'll partner closely with our operations team to quickly identify, troubleshoot, and repair mechanical issues, ensuring safe, reliable, and efficient production.
From responding to breakdown calls and completing work orders to performing preventative maintenance on a wide range of equipment, you'll play a key role in minimizing downtime and supporting plant performance. This position reports to the Engineering Lead and offers a great opportunity to grow your mechanical skillset within a supportive, team‑focused environment.
This role is designed and intended to be performed in Muscatine, IA.
PrimaryDuties & Responsibilities:
- Be knowledgeable about the process equipment plant-wide and the proper maintenance requirements of that equipment
- Maintain equipment by monitoring, problem solving, and mitigating down time or optimizing up-time.
- Replace/repair motor, gearbox, bearings, etc on mechanical equipment throughout the plant
- Replace/repair mechanical pieces of conveyance equipment (screw, drag, buckets, belt, etc)
- Complete routine maintenance tasks such as motor greasing, gearbox inspections, baghouse inspections, etc
- Detailed documentation of all maintenance tasks through CMMS (Including task completed, parts used/checked out, time to complete job, etc)
- Adhere to all Kent safety protocols in work performed by following plant policies, rules, and guidelines
- Communicate observations to Maintenance and Production supervisors including root causes of failure and process improvements
- Ensure proper housekeeping and general clean‑up practices during and after work completion (All 5S protocols will be adhered to on the jobsite as well as the maintenance shop)
- Will require working off shift and holidays as the business needs
- Other tasks as assigned
Qualifications:
- Working knowledge or the ability to learn the following:
- Gearboxes - Dodge, Eurodrive, Falk, Reeves, Sumitomo
- Material Handling - Belt, Drag, Screw, Bucket Elevators, Roller Conveyors
- Motors - Classifications and Bearing Types
- Process Equipment - Pellet Mills, Roller Mills, Hammer Mills, Mixers, Baghouses, Fans
- Packaging Equipment - Bagging, Bundling, Boxing, Palletizing, Wrapping
- Computers - Basic skills such as Windows Office Software (Outlook, Word, Excel)
- CMMS - Use a computerized maintenance management system (AX, Dynaway)
- EDMS - Electronic document management system utilization
- Drawings and other technical Documents - Able to understand and implement information
- 5-10% - Required to travel between 2 plants until the legacy plant is decommissioned. Then there will be minimal travel
- Must be able to lift/carry tools/parts up and down elevations where lifting equipment is not accessible.
