Regulatory Compliance Specialist
The Safety Specialist participates in the effort of establishing and maintaining a safe and healthy environment and culture for all employees, customers, visitors, and other community stakeholders at the Constellium‑Muscle Shoals site. The role recommends, develops, and implements programs and activities that enhance safety and health, minimize loss, and reduce Constellium’s exposure.
Responsibilities- Provide leadership for the development and implementation of specific safety policies and programs.
- Audit and investigate: inspect facilities to detect hazards and recommend corrective actions.
- Facilitate investigations, analyze incidents, identify trends, and initiate corrective and preventative action plans.
- Recommend, justify, implement, and manage safety devices, equipment, or products that protect employees and contractors.
- Provide proactive oversight and support safety and health policies, procedures, and incident reduction initiatives.
- Serve as the interface for internal and external health and safety audits.
- Drive continuous improvement through the use of safety program elements such as Leadership Safety Tours, Contained Hazards, Near Miss Program, 8D Incident Investigation, and other risk‑reduction programs.
- Develop policies and procedures to increase employee awareness of unsafe work practices or conditions.
- Review, approve, and issue hot‑work permits.
- Assist in the development of confined‑space entry and rescue procedures.
- Ensure safety and health programs comply with federal, state, and local laws and regulations.
- Establish and improve safety programs by applying knowledge of current policies and regulations.
- Research and benchmark health and safety regulations and best practices, and recommend compliant programs and systems.
- Assist operations in maintaining a positive relationship with federal, state, and local safety, health, and environmental regulatory agencies.
- Bachelor’s degree in safety, industrial hygiene, engineering, or related sciences with 1+ year of relevant experience;
- Associate’s degree or recognized safety certifications with 5+ years of EHS experience;
- 10+ years of relevant safety experience in lieu of degrees or certifications;
- Certification by the Board of Certified Safety Professionals (preferred);
- Ability to schedule and balance time with minimal direction;
- Knowledge of applicable safety, environmental, and health regulations, including OSHA;
- Exceptional problem‑solving and organizational skills;
- Capability to translate technical information into layman’s terms and communicate at all organizational levels;
- Knowledge of DOT, DHS, OSHA, and related regulatory agencies;
- Result orientation, accountability, negotiation, project and change management, and team‑building;
- Strong communication, autonomy, collaboration, and interpersonal skills;
- Analytical and evaluative abilities, with a track record of effective teamwork;
- Proficiency with Microsoft Office applications and SAP.
Constellium Muscle Shoals is an aluminum manufacturing plant in Alabama with over 1,200 employees. It operates the largest strip mill in the USA and a world‑class recycling center capable of recycling nearly 20 billion cans per year. The site produces aluminum can sheet for the packaging industry and supplies sheet metal to Constellium’s Bowling Green, Kentucky, site.
