Director of Youth Ministry - St. Leonard, Muskego, WI

The Director of Youth Ministry (DYM) develops, directs and maintains a comprehensive plan of religious education for youth, grades 7-11. DYM recruits and trains catechetical staff. The DYM oversees the sacramental preparation programs for children and their parents.

The DYM co-leads with the Director of Child Ministry (DCM) in managing the Office for Christian Formation. This includes the preparation and implementation of the budget, oversight of purchases and equipment and the supervision of the secretarial staff and volunteers.

The DYM is a member of the pastoral staff and collaborates with the pastor and other staff in realizing the educational mission of the parish.

The DYM works independently and exercises discretion and judgement in fulfilling the responsibilities of this position.

The duties and requirements of this position are ministerial in nature and include participating in Mass, prayer, and leading others in prayer, as appropriate. These duties are central to our mission as a Catholic parish.

The employee is expected to know and act consistently in accordance with the mission, policies, and tenets of the Catholic Church and the Code of Ethical Standards for Church Leaders. The employee is further expected to perform all duties and responsibilities with an overriding commitment to develop our Catholic Faith Community in accordance with the doctrines, laws, and norms of the Catholic Church.

MAJOR

POSITION RESPONSIBILITIES AND REGULAR ACTIVITIES
  • Develops, directs and Maintains a Comprehensive plan of religious education for youth
  • Discerns the Christian Formation needs of the parish youth (grades 7-11).
  • Develops, implements, and directs program changes for this age group as required.
  • Recruits and trains adult teachers to be involved in Christian Formation for youth.
  • Manages the 7th through 11th grade classes and their scheduling.
  • Creates a program of student enrichment opportunities.
  • Oversees the Confirmation preparation program, its retreats and the celebration of the Sacrament.
  • Recruits Leaders and is present for two sophomore retreats
  • Monitors and offers opportunities for the service component of the youth program.
  • Works with the OCIA team for the OCIA/Delayed Sacraments program 7th through 11th grades.
  • Promotes and directs the Labor of Love service program.
  • Help facilitate sacramental offerings for youth.
  • Organizes, promotes and directs the Youth Mission Trip.
  • Directs the Home Study program for grades 7-9.
  • Recruits youth volunteers and is present for Outreach events such as;
    World Series to Strike Out Hunger, Souper Bowl of Caring
  • Recruits volunteers for Christian Learning and Spirituality Committee (CLAS)
  • Collaborates with other parish ministries in providing youth volunteers for other parish committees and events.
  • Communicates with parents about the direction and scope of the program.
  • Evaluates program offerings through teacher and parental input.
  • Reviews student placements in classes relative to their prior religious instruction.
  • Conducts informational meetings and/or sends printed materials to parents as they relate to their child’s reception of Confirmation.
  • Incorporates the requirements of the SEE program.
  • Attends the Christian Learning and Spirituality committee meetings.
  • Acts on the individual needs of students, as necessary.
  • Maintains a safe learning environment for all students and catechists.
  • Other duties assigned by the Pastor
Co-leads with the DCM in managing the Christian Formation Office (CFO)
  • Manages the Christian Formation Office (CFO) support staff and is responsible for their performance evaluation.
  • Prepares and is responsible for allocated budget.
  • Supervises and approves purchases of textbooks and resource materials.
Member of the Pastoral Staff
  • Works with parish staff, school personnel, pastoral council and parish committees in a cooperative manner.
  • Communicates with the parish grade school and local public schools regarding public relations and scheduling of events.
  • Attends and participates in appropriate Archdiocesan meetings, workshops, and possibly Youth Ministry conferences.
