TERMS:This position is a 200 total paid days position offering full family medical, dental, and vision benefits. Dental, vision, and life insurance are paid by the district at no cost to the employee. Personal business days and sick time paid. Retirement through the Office of Retirement Services (Pension Plus or Defined Contribution).
SALARY RANGE:This position is on the Nonunion Salary Scale Grade R, $45208.16 - $59530.18 per year.
GENERAL JOB FUNCTION:The Promise Zone Community Outreach Specialist will assist in effectively managing MAISD and Promise Zone eligible institution efforts in creating a career and college ready culture. The Specialist works to assist CCR leadership to implement best practices in schools, business and community to create greater postsecondary access for all. The Specialist will be responsible for reconnecting Promise Zone Scholars who have become disengaged and supporting them in pursuing a degree or completing a training program.
ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS:- Effectively re-engage Muskegon Area Promise Scholars who have stopped/dropped or lost touch with the program, conduct empathetic intake interviews with re-engaged scholars to understand the root causes of their disengagement, collaborate with scholars to develop realistic step‑by‑step action plans for re‑enrollment and academic success, and educate scholars on the specific compliance requirements of the Promise Zone scholarship.
- Build and maintain strong relationships with local high schools, partner colleges/universities, area businesses and local non‑profits.
- Organize targeted events designed to attract and support disengaged scholars.
- Maintain students’ records and notes using approved Student Information Systems.
- Collaborate with collegiate partners regarding student enrollment, melt and success.
- Support scheduled events/marketing for Career and College Readiness (CCR) and Promise Zone public relations.
- Participate in appropriate professional development activities to maintain an optimal level of expertise for the position.
- Provide career and college content & expertise at meetings or training.
- Demonstrate and communicate a strong belief in the statewide vision for Career Development.

- Possession of a Bachelor's degree or higher.
- Ability to work independently or within a team in a fast paced environment.
- Ability to organize short and long term duties and responsibilities, and manage a large number of students and multiple projects.
- Ability to work with and demonstrate sensitivity to the needs of a diverse population.
- No physical or mental restrictions that would, with reasonable accommodation, prevent performance of the essential job functions and responsibilities.
- Familiarity with K‑12, higher education, Career and College Readiness (CCR) & Promise Zone (PZ) legislation and postsecondary access practices.
- Evidence of two or more years of successful experience advising or teaching young adults, preferably high school or post‑secondary.
- Experience in establishing and maintaining effective relationships with K‑12, higher education, business and employers.
- Experience in developing presentations and/or workshops for community members, educators and or students & families.
- Strong interpersonal, organizational, oral and written communication skills.
