Position: Substitute Teacher (as needed)

Responsibilities
  • Classroom Management:
    Maintain a classroom environment conducive to effective learning; uphold established routines and procedures of the school and assigned classroom; foster a classroom atmosphere based on firm, fair, and consistent practices, promoting respect for individuals and responsible citizenship.
  • Curriculum and Instruction:
    Follow lesson plans left by the absent teacher to ensure seamless instruction; instruct assigned classes at designated times and locations; plan appropriate learning activities when lesson plans are incomplete, aligning with grade level and subject.
  • Student Behavior and Discipline:
    Oversee student behavior during class, between classes, and lunch periods; implement the regular teacher’s discipline plan.
  • Academic Engagement and Support:
    Motivate students to achieve their highest potential through assignments, activities, and relationships; utilize resources effectively to support learning within the classroom, the Academy, and the community.
  • Professionalism and Improvement:
    Demonstrate professionalism and ethical behavior; strive for continuous improvement in teaching methods, techniques, and interpersonal relationships; exhibit personal qualities that reflect positively on oneself, the Academy, and the community.
  • Additional Responsibilities:
    Assume duties assigned by the school leader; promote responsible citizenship through role modeling; understand, communicate, and enforce the Student Code of Conduct; use technology effectively for instruction, record-keeping, and communication; ensure safety and orderliness of the learning environment and appropriate use of facilities and equipment; support the Academy during peak periods or when there is an overload of duties.
Qualifications
  • A minimum of 60 college credits with a GPA of 2.0 or higher.
  • Able to use technology as an instructional tool in the classroom, to analyze academic achievement data, and to aid effective communications.
  • Exemplary work habits verified by reference check.
Desired Qualifications
  • Bachelor’s degree or Valid Michigan Teacher’s Certificate.
  • Knowledge and skills working with staff, students and parents from all backgrounds.
  • Strong interpersonal skills.
  • Excellent verbal and written expression using proper grammar and vocabulary.
