TERMSThis position is a 201 total paid days position offering full family medical, dental, and vision benefits. Dental, vision, and life insurance are paid by the district at no cost to the employee. Personal business days and sick time paid. Retirement through the Office of Retirement Services (Pension Plus or Defined Contribution). Negotiated long term disability is paid by the district up to $30 per month.
SALARY RANGEThis full time, direct hire position is on the Center based Professional Scale, $56,.00 per year on the Bachelor’s lane. Lanes available for BA+20, MA, MA+30, and MA+60/PHD.
GENERAL JOB FUNCTIONUnder general supervision, educational interpreters act as facilitators of communication between Deaf/Hard of Hearing students and non-signing members of the school community.
ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS- A qualified interpreter certification as defined in the Michigan Compiled Laws and known as the Deaf Persons’ Interpreter Act who has been approved at EIPA Level, BEI Level or NIC.
- Bachelor’s degree from an accredited college/university.
- Experience working with students with moderate to severe disabilities.
PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS
Occasional lifting of light to moderately heavy equipment is required. The ability to move freely about the classroom is also a common requirement.
TYPICAL WORK ENVIRONMENTMost work is done in a therapy room or classroom environment.
EVALUATIONEmployees in this classification are evaluated according to Board policy.

WORK LOCATION(S)Most work is performed in the classrooms and community-based locations.
TRAVEL EXPECTATIONSFrequent travel in the area is required. Some travel is necessary within the state for conferences, meetings, etc.
