- This unionized position is a 184 total paid days position offering full family medical, dental, and vision benefits.
- Dental, vision, and life insurance are paid by the district at no cost to the employee.
- Personal business days and sick time paid.
- Retirement through the Office of Retirement Services (Pension Plus or Defined Contribution).
This position is on the CTC Professional Scale, $52000-$86000.00 per year on the BA lane. Lanes for BA+20, MA, MA+30, and MA+60 are available.
GENERAL JOB FUNCTIONThe HVAC Instructor delivers specialized instructional programming focused on the principles and practices of Heating, Ventilation, Air Conditioning, and the industry. This role involves providing hands-on learning experiences, developing curriculum aligned with industry standards and potential certifications, managing technical lab environments and student activities, integrating classroom instruction with aviation career pathways and real-world applications, and maintaining effective communication with students, families, and educational colleagues.
ESSENTIALJOB FUNCTIONS
- 1. Delivers relevant classroom and lab/workplace instruction using competency-based and outcome-based education techniques and strategies.
- 2. Works closely with the advisory committee(s) to develop pertinent course content.
- 3. Develops work-based learning sites for students.
- 4. Assesses student progress using a variety of techniques and testing instruments.
- 5. Maintains an appropriate level of two-way communication with parents and students. Keeps parents informed and interested in classroom and workplace activities and accomplishments.
- 6. Works cooperatively with other staff to create opportunities for students.
- 7. Maintains accurate and legally adequate data-keeping systems and student records.
- 8. Assists in the utilization and monitoring of the program budget.
- 9. Attends all required meetings and participates in all activities essential to program operations and Michigan Department of Education program requirements.
- 10. Performs such other tasks and assumes such other responsibilities as may be assigned by the Principal.
- 1. The instructor must possess a valid EPA 608 Certified Technician credential
- 2. Possession of a Bachelor’s degree in education or a relevant vocational specialty area.
- 3. Possession of a valid Annual Career Authorization in CIP Code 47.0607 area with appropriate industry licensure. (Related state‑approved CIP Codes to teach 47.0607 are: 17.0401, 47.0602, or 47.9999.)
- 4. If no Annual Career Authorization, 4,000 hours of paid recent and relevant work experience in related fields (within the last 10 years), and appropriate licensure.
- 5. Exhibits a commitment to excellent interpersonal skills.
- 6. An ability to supervise and manage the implementation of programs/services developed for students.
- 7. No physical or mental restrictions that would, with reasonable accommodation, prevent performance of the essential job functions and responsibilities.
- 8. Planning/Organizational Skills – Instructors must plan and organize their daily classroom activities to achieve the individual goals established for their students.
- 9. Decision‑Making Abilities – Instructors must make frequent and suitable decisions regarding classroom activities, student performance, instructional strategies, etc.
- 10. Interpersonal Skills – Instructors must interact well and maintain rapport with parents, support staff, and colleagues.
- 1. Successful experience as an instructor of secondary students in an educational setting.
- 2. Successful experience in the development of work-based work sites within the business community.
