Job Function

Develop and deliver academic, technical, and workplace instruction compliant with the Office of Career and Technical Education (OCTE) as a state‑approved Engineering Technology (CIP Code 15.0000) program. The instructor will provide students with a rigorous curriculum covering engineering design processes, computer‑aided design (CAD), and electronic and mechanical systems, combining classroom theory with hands‑on technical labs to prepare students for industry‑recognized credentials and career placement in high‑demand engineering and manufacturing sectors.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities
  • Design and implement interdisciplinary projects that require students to solve authentic industry problems, often in collaboration with core academic teachers.
  • Co‑design curriculum and ‘Client Projects’ with industry partners to ensure students apply technical skills in professional contexts.
  • Develops, evaluates, and maintains competency‑based technical education curriculum aligned with academic standards, Career Ready Practices, and state requirements.
  • Works closely with advisory committees and industry organizations to ensure curriculum meets workforce needs.
  • Develops and maintains programs that support student completion and attainment of industry‑recognized credentials.
  • Assesses, evaluates, documents, and communicates student progress, performance, and behavior using a variety of techniques and data systems in a timely manner.
  • Uses and analyzes student, building, and regional data to drive program improvements.
  • Develops work‑based learning sites for students.
  • Plans and conducts instructional activities that allow students to observe, question, and investigate professional practices.
  • Coordinates and manages instructional opportunities such as Mentorships, externships, and co‑designed challenges (e.g., SkillsUSA).
  • Facilitates and manages student support services, including special education, academic support, and work‑based learning.
  • Maintains a safe, clean, organized, and compliant learning environment aligned with state and federal standards.
  • Communicates regularly and effectively with parents, students, and stakeholders using formal and informal methods.
  • Works cooperatively with staff to create and support student opportunities.
  • Maintains accurate, legally compliant records and data‑keeping systems to utilize data to personalize learning pathways for students.
  • Assists in program budget utilization and monitoring.
  • Attends required meetings and participates in activities essential to program operations and compliance with Michigan Department of Education requirements.
  • Participates in ongoing educational & CIP specific professional development to improve technical knowledge and instructional practices, including maintaining required certifications (SCECHs/ACA).
  • Coordinates and participates in advisory meetings and program‑related activities.
  • Demonstrates regular and reliable attendance to ensure student success.
  • Engages in regular team and staff meetings to contribute to collective decision‑making, share best practices, and coordinate integrated learning opportunities for students.
  • Collaborates effectively with multidisciplinary team members through regular meetings to align CTE goals with school‑wide initiatives and ensure comprehensive support for student success.
  • Performs other duties as assigned.
  • Qualifications Required
    • Possession of a valid Michigan Department of Education Annual Career Authorization in CIP area (15.0000) or the ability to obtain, which requires 4,000 hours of paid, recent, and relevant work experience in the related field (within the last 10 years) and appropriate licensure if applicable.
    • Pursuant with State of Michigan Student Safety Legislation, all prospective hires must provide fingerprinting and background check results to the District prior to employment.
    Preferred
    • Bachelor’s degree in education or relevant vocational specialty area.
