Math Coach

The Math Coach ensures students receive high-quality math instruction and leads the development and improvement of teachers through training, observations, model lessons, feedback conversations, data analysis, and more. The Math Coach serves as the math content expert and provides support on curriculum, high-quality interactions, and effective mathematics instruction.

Qualifications

- Bachelor's Degree in Education;
Master's Degree in Curriculum & Instruction, Educational Leadership, or related field preferred.

- Valid Michigan Elementary or Secondary Teaching Certificate.

- Minimum of 5 years of successful classroom teaching experience.

- Demonstrated expertise in planning and implementing Illustrative Math (IM).

- Experience with instructional coaching, peer mentoring, or leading adult professional learning.

Duties and Responsibilities

Duties include, but are not limited to:

- Provide high-quality professional development around effective math practices and the foundations of numeracy.

- Provide feedback, engage in one-on-one coaching, and model best practices.

- Identify where high-quality curricula built-in supports are not being maximized.

- Model and teach new quality math intervention activities.

- Coach teachers on using high-quality, evidence-based assessments to determine the most effective interventions required.

- Coordinate and implement high-quality math curriculum (IM) DK-4.

- Facilitate professional development for teachers.

- Observe teachers, provide feedback, and identify next steps to improve instruction in core math instruction for the purpose of support and not evaluation.

- Support classroom teachers in developing interventions, whole, and small group learning.

- Model and teach exemplar lessons.

- Support lesson preparation using IM.

- Model and support high-quality interactions with students.

- Analyze data, identify trends, and support teachers to adjust instruction based on data as part of the MTSS team.

- Support teachers with effective parent communication and family involvement.

- Communicate a belief in all students' abilities to become successful mathematicians.

- Attend all required meetings and trainings.

- Communicate with the leadership team on school-wide math progress.

Compensation

The salary of this grant-funded position will be commensurate with level of education and experience.
