Position SummaryWe are seeking a talented and experienced Mechanical Inspector to join our team of professionals. The role involves performing field inspections during various stages of construction, reviewing plans and specifications, conducting Rental Housing inspections, reporting violations, maintaining records, and other related duties.
Job Requirements- Perform field inspections during various stages of construction.
- Review plans and specifications for commercial, industrial, and residential projects to ensure compliance with city, state, and federal laws and regulations.
- Perform Rental Housing inspections in accordance with municipal ordinances and regulations.
- Report violations and maintain files/records.
- Perform other related duties as required.

Skills & Knowledge- Extensive knowledge of local mechanical building codes and current construction procedures and technology.
- Interpretation of codes in the field and ability to provide code‑compliant solutions.
- Positive interaction with staff, the general public, contractors, governmental entities, and clientele.
- Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
- Good time management, organization, and attention to detail.
- Demonstrated initiative and independent judgment.
- Ability to prioritize and execute assignments with limited supervision.
- Ability to work on several tasks simultaneously.
- Michigan Mechanical Inspector certification required.
- OR hold a mechanical contractor license from Michigan in at least 3 of the following 4 categories for at least 1 year:
Hydronic heating and cooling and process piping; HVAC equipment;
Refrigeration;
Fire suppression. - OR 6 years of experience under a licensed mechanical contractor who can attest to your performance of mechanical work in 3 of the 4 categories listed above.
- Additional Michigan inspector certifications are a plus.
- Experience in municipal code inspections preferred.
- Valid driver's license with a good driving record required.
- Frequent walking, standing, climbing, bending, stooping, crawling, or kneeling to conduct inspections.
- Ability to climb ladders, scaffolding, or unfinished stairways to access roofs, attics, crawl spaces, and other elevated or confined areas.
- Occasional lifting, carrying, or moving objects up to 25–50 pounds.
- Vision sufficient to read construction plans and observe details.
- Hearing sufficient to communicate in noisy environments.
- Manual dexterity to handle tools, operate equipment, and use computers/tablets for reporting.
- Work environment: office and field settings, exposure to outdoor weather conditions and construction site environments.
- Frequent driving between inspection sites and company locations within a region.
