The engineer will be responsible for completing detailed site civil design packages for largely industrial clients, with an emphasis on natural gas pipeline facilities. The engineer will need to be capable of supporting multiple projects concurrently. This role will require the candidate be comfortable communicating with authorities having jurisdiction, as well as attending and presenting at planning commission meetings. The engineer will be responsible for identifying and applying for applicable local and state permits related to the site design.

Examples of such permits/reviews include site plan review, zoning permit, engineering approval, stormwater review, drain permit, SESC permit, building permit, and ROW permit. The engineer will have the expertise to develop detailed site civil design packages, perform calculations required for stormwater routing and detention/retention, and the ability to seal civil calculations and drawing packages. The candidate will perform QA/QC checks on calculations and design deliverables.

The ideal candidate will have the ability to collaborate with the civil design team as well as other disciplines to ensure coordination throughout projects. The candidate would be heavily involved in engineering design but would also be encouraged to correspond with clients and further develop project management skills.

Primary Duties and Responsibilities:
  • Lead civil engineering design project scope of work
  • Develop site layouts
  • Develop grading and stormwater management plans
  • Identify and apply for local and state permits related to site development
  • Design equipment and pipe support foundations
  • Maintain Michigan PE License
  • Coordinate with project team members and clients
  • Support multiple projects simultaneously
Education and Experience:
  • Bachelor’s Degree in Civil Engineering required.
  • 5-10 years of experience as a Civil Engineer
  • Michigan PE License required
Required Skills:
  • Knowledge of stormwater management strategies and best practices
  • Familiarity with applying for local permits related to site plan, building, and other trades
  • Technical writing
  • Software:
    Civil 3D, AutoCAD, Open Flows Storm, Open Plant, Microstation, RISA 3D, RISA Foundation, Microsoft 365
