POSITION SUMMARY
The CMM Lab Supervisor is the hands-on technical leader for dimensional inspection and metrology activities. This position operates and programs Coordinate Measuring Machines (CMMs) using PC-DMIS, operates and programs Keyence measurement systems, and ensures accurate, repeatable inspection results. The role develops standard methods, manages lab priorities and equipment readiness, and trains Quality Technicians on all three shifts to safely and consistently perform inspections in accordance with approved processes, customer requirements, and the AS9100 Quality Management System.
The CMM Lab Supervisor also prepares and reviews inspection records and customer submission packages, including First Article Inspection (FAI) and Production Part Approval Process (PPAP) documentation.
ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS
- Operate, program, troubleshoot, and optimize CMM equipment using PC-DMIS for first-piece, in-process, final layout, and capability inspections.
- Operate, program, troubleshoot, and optimize Keyence measurement systems for dimensional and visual inspection applications.
- Interpret engineering drawings, specifications, customer requirements, and Geometric Dimensioning and Tolerancing (GD&T) to establish sound inspection strategies.
- Develop, validate, document, and maintain CMM and Keyence programs, including alignments, measurement strategies, fixturing requirements, revision control, and program backups.
- Verify inspection programs and results before release for production use and investigate unexpected, inconsistent, or out-of-tolerance findings.
- Plan and coordinate daily CMM lab workload based on production schedules, customer priorities, first-article needs, and inspection risk; communicate constraints and recovery plans to Quality, Engineering, and Production.
- Create standardized inspection methods, work instructions, visual aids, checklists, and training materials aligned with AS9100 requirements and internal procedures.
- Train, coach, and qualify Quality Technicians on all three shifts to operate CMM and Keyence equipment, execute approved programs, interpret results, complete required records, and escalate concerns appropriately.
- Maintain a training and qualification matrix, evaluate technician competency, and provide refresher training when processes, programs, equipment, or requirements change.
- Prepare, review, and maintain dimensional inspection reports and customer submission documentation, including AS9102 FAI packages, PPAP documentation, ballooned drawings, capability studies, and supporting objective evidence.
- Review inspection data for accuracy, completeness, traceability, and compliance before internal approval or customer submission.
- Support control plans, inspection plans, process validation, Measurement System Analysis (MSA), and Gage Repeatability and Reproducibility (Gage R&R) studies.
- Ensure inspection equipment is maintained, calibrated, verified, clean, secure, and available for use; coordinate service, calibration, software support, and preventive maintenance as needed.
