Under direct supervision, attends an approved Michigan Commission on Law Enforcement Standards (MCOLES) basic police academy to develop the technical knowledge, skills, and physical capabilities required to perform police service and carries out related duties as required.
Physical and Hazard ExposureMay be exposed to adverse weather conditions, extreme heat, precarious locations, fumes or airborne particles, toxic or caustic chemicals, electrical shock, explosives, bodily fluids, and other dangers associated with crime or accident scenes. Noise levels can range from quiet to very loud and may involve extreme emotional trauma, including interactions with injured, abused, traumatized, or deceased individuals.
Qualifications- Physical health, strength, and agility sufficient to meet the demands of police work as determined by a physical agility test and medical exam following current MCOLES guidelines.
- Must meet current MCOLES vision guidelines, including color, binocular, and peripheral vision.
- Psychological suitability assessed by a psychological exam required by MCOLES.
The selected candidate must complete a post‑offer medical examination (including a complete physical, psychological evaluation, and drug screening) conducted by a City‑appointed physician before the first day of employment. Successful completion of a probationary period is required prior to permanent appointment.
