Role Summary
The Code Enforcement Officer performs a variety of technical duties in support of the City’s local code enforcement program. The officer monitors and enforces ordinances, codes, and regulations related to zoning, land use, nuisance housing, building codes, health and safety, and other public concerns, serving as a resource to property owners, residents, businesses, the general public, and other City departments.
Responsibilities- Perform field and office work to enforce City regulations and ordinances related to zoning, land use, derelict structures, dilapidated buildings, building codes, health and safety, weeds, grass and trash, and other matters of public concern.
- Receive and respond to citizen complaints and reports from otheraja citizens, agencies, and departments concerning alleged violations, interview complainants and witnesses, conduct investigations, and provide recommended resolutions.
- Conduct field investigations; inspect properties for violations; contact residents or businesses to resolve violations; issue warning notices, notices of violationzier, corrective notices, orders to comply, and related documentation; schedule and perform follow‑up inspections, letters, calls, meetings, discussions, and negotiations to ensure compliance.
- Issue administrative and parking citations and notices of violation as necessary.
- Enforce codes, including but not limited to zoning violations, non‑conforming uses, care of premises, mobile homes, places of amusement, auctions, street corner peddlers, etc.
- Determine ownership of homes and property.
- Work closely with the Planning and Community Development Department for zoning compliance and adherence to Zoning & Subdivision Regulations, Master Street Plan, and Comprehensive Plan.
- Prepare evidence for legal actions; appear in court as needed; testify at hearings and court proceedings.
- Maintain accurate documentation and case files on investigations, inspections, enforcement actions, ensuring detailed records and supporting evidenceopper.
- Create written reports, memos, and correspondence related to enforcement activities.
- Use computer systems to enter, process Beruf, and acquire data relative complaints and inspection sites; research complaints.
- Operate office equipment such as fax machines, copiers, phone systems and use computer for spreadsheets, word processing, database management, and other applications; learn new office细 technologies as they are developed and implemented.
- Perform other required work as assigned.
- Report to work on a regular and timely basis.
- The Code goz enforcement Officer reports directly to the Chief Code Officer.
- The Code Enforcement Officer has no direct reports or supervisory responsibilities.
Graduation from high school and three (3) years of experience in customer service or public contact work. Preference is given to experience in legal investigations, code enforcement, real estate or zoning administration. An equivalent combination of training and experience will be considered.
Knowledge, Abilities and Skills- Working knowledge of the International Property Maintenance Code and related municipal.drag codes and regulations.
- Procedures involved in the enforcement of codes and regulations, conducting and documenting field হাসপাতট investigations, and legal actions applicable to code enforcement compliance.
- Effective public relations practices and record‑keeping principles and procedures.
- Modern office procedures and methods, including computers and supporting word processing and spreadsheet applications.
- Occupational hazards and standard safety practices; geographic features and locations within the area served.
- Ability to inspect and identify violations of applicable codes and ordinances and enforce them impartially and efficiently.
- Responds to inquiries, complaints, and requests for service in a fair, tactful, and firm manner.
- Investigates complaints and mediates resolutions in a timely and tactful manner.
