Job Overview

Georgia‑Pacific's Consumer Products division is seeking qualified professionals for a Converting Technician position to support the Converting department inside the pulp and paper manufacturing facility located in Muskogee, OK
. The role requires safe and efficient operation of converting production lines, monitoring line performance, adjusting within standard operating procedures, and supporting basic equipment care to maintain reliability. Team members include Converting Performance Leaders, Manufacturing Engineers, Reliability Technicians, and other operators to resolve issues, support daily production goals, and contribute to continuous improvement.

Compensation & Hours

The shift is a 12‑hour rotating shift that includes nights, weekends, holidays, and overtime as needed
. The starting pay is $21.50 per hour.

Location & Facility

Located on the Kerr‑McClellan Navigational Channel (Arkansas River) on about 640 acres, the Muskogee Consumer Products operation spans roughly 70 acres (2,900,000 square feet) of manufacturing and warehouse space under roof. The facility employs approximately 830 people and houses 2 of the 13 largest tissue machines in the world, producing an average of 900 tons of paper per day. Products are 40% retail and 60% commercial.

Responsibilities
  • Operate converting production lines safely and efficiently to meet established production, quality, and waste targets.
  • Monitor equipment performance and product quality; make necessary adjustments within standard procedures.
  • Perform Operator Basic Care tasks including cleaning, inspection, and lubrication to sustain equipment reliability.
  • Identify and report equipment or process issues; assist with basic troubleshooting to minimize downtime.
  • Support changeovers, startups, and shutdowns to ensure smooth transitions between products.
  • Maintain a clean, organized work area in alignment with housekeeping and 5S expectations.
  • Collaborate with team members, maintenance, and leadership to meet daily production goals.
  • Operate safely around mobile equipment such as forklifts and clamp trucks as required.
  • Follow all safety policies and procedures, including proper use of personal protective equipment (PPE) and lockout/tagout (LOTO) requirements.
  • Perform physical tasks, including lifting, walking, climbing, stooping, standing, pushing, and pulling for extended periods in a loud, industrial environment, including work at heights or in confined spaces.
  • Communicate effectively during shift handoffs and team meetings (DDS) to ensure alignment on priorities and risks.
Basic Qualifications
  • High School Diploma or GED.
Preferred Qualifications
  • Minimum one year of experience in a manufacturing, industrial, agricultural, or military environment OR completion of post‑high‑school education in a manufacturing/industrial‑centered program.
  • Three or more years of experience operating, repairing, maintaining, and troubleshooting mechanical equipment.
  • Three or more years of experience using computerized machinery in a production environment.
  • Experience working in a pulp/paper mill or with converting equipment.
  • Experience performing preventive maintenance routes in a manufacturing or industrial environment.
  • Experience using Microsoft Office tools.
