Clinical Resource Nurse

The BHU Resource RN will provide professional quality psychiatric nursing care to patients hospitalized with psychiatric/emotional disorders according to hospital policies and procedures. The nurse assesses, organizes, and completes patient care with consideration for patient age, cultural, and psychosocial factors. This role involves participation in the development, review, and evaluation of multidisciplinary treatment plans as per policies and procedures. The nurse develops a therapeutic relationship with assigned patients to coordinate psychosocial treatment with standardized physical nursing care and guidance.

Maintaining and reviewing patients' records, including posting test and examination results, is a critical responsibility. Facilitating patient discharge through timely, appropriate referrals and utilization of patient education resources suitable to patient age and cultural/psychosocial factors is essential. This position collaborates with other disciplines as appropriate. The nurse supports unit and hospital goals through performance improvement and educational activities by attending in-services, meeting unit education standards, and completing variance reports.

Additional duties may be assigned as needed. The Clinical Resource Nurse exercises independent judgment in making decisions from many diversified alternatives that are subject to general review in final stages only. Coordination of activities of others is performed but does not involve supervisory responsibilities. There will be opportunities to lead others in similar work performed without formal supervision. Input on performance evaluations may be provided but does not include preparation or delivery.

Direct interaction with patients and customers is a key aspect of this role. The nurse works with internal and external customers via telephone or face-to-face interactions. Collaboration with other healthcare professionals and staff is emphasized. Frequent interaction with individuals at the Director level or above is expected.
