Position Overview & Responsibilities
The Ahamed Lab in the Cardiovascular Biology Research Program is searching for Research Technician to support ongoing research focused on mouse models of heart disease with a particular emphasis on cardiac fibrosis We utilize cutting edge techniques in genetics molecular biology cell biology and biochemistry to explore disease mechanisms and identify potential therapeutic targets This role offers hands on experience in experimental research mouse colony support and general lab operations within a collaborative scientific environment
- Performing experiments using various molecular cellular and biochemical techniques
- Anayzing and interpreting experimental data and presenting findings to the Manager or Principal Investigator
- Supporting the management and breeding of a mouse colony including genotyping and record keeping
- Assisting with laboratory organization inventory and compliance with safety protocols
- Administering injections medications and wound care; performing venipuncture and assisting with diagnostic procedures under the direction of the supervisor or consulting veterinarian
- Identifying preparing and executing research experiments in accordance with approved protocols
- Taking initiative on non routine assignments and applying problem solving skills to experimental design and execution
- Bachelors degree in a biological science or related field or an equivalent combination of relevant laboratory experience
- Ability and willingness to handle laboratory mice including breeding maintenance and procedures as needed
- Basic proficiency with computers including internet browsing order processing systems and Microsoft Office Word Excel Power Point
- Ability to comprehend instructions follow protocols and perform precise accurate work when handling samples and chemicals
- Strong analytical skills including the ability to compute basic mathematical operations such as rates ratios percentages molarity and unit conversions
- Excellent oral and written communication skills for documenting procedures summarizing data and collaborating effectively with team members
Typically Monday through Friday between 830AM to 5PM with some variables
