• Greet, assist, and ring out all customers politely
• Maintain company standards for perishables and stay up to date on all active safety procedures
• Ensure Health and Safety Codes, checking for pricing and expiration, and maintaining an organizational standard area
• Check, record, and retain cooler/freezer temperatures and maintenance
• Stay up to date with Health and Safety standards, holding a working knowledge of cleaning supplies, chemicals, and machines within the department
• Verify and adjust the display of products so that displays are full, color contrast is emphasized, products are rotated, commodities are grouped, tables reflect the season, and adequate space is provided for high impulse/demand items
• Prepare the backroom for receipt of merchandise, check the load for quality/shortage/overage, code‑date all case items in the cooler, sort cases by quality and degree of ripeness, store back stock, and verify merchandise against the invoice
• Comprehend and provide complex verbal instructions and descriptions concerning store policy, procedures, and equipment usage
• Organize the cooler/freezer/preparation area for receipt of merchandise, verify merchandise against the invoice, inspect deliveries for shortages or damage and quality, sort cases for stocking or product preparation, and code‑date all case items in the cooler/freezer
• Compute retail price from cost, complete price changes, manage PLU file and scale system maintenance, and supervise manual price‑marking/labeling of merchandise without a UPC code
• Move damaged or unsalable and "returnable" products from shelves to the backroom, sort materials, return damaged product to the warehouse for credit, and re‑process product for sale or mark the product down in price

Produce Clerk reports directly to the Produce Department Manager.

• Basic Mathematics (add, subtract, multiply, divide)
• High School Diploma or Equivalent
• Prior experience with produce in a grocery setting

• Lift, twist, move, and carry a maximum of 50 lbs., from the floor to shelving, or overhead racks in the store and cooler/freezer
• Maintain active signage and pricing in all departmental areas
• Care for signs, banners, and debris from daily operations

Inside work with transitions of heat/cold/humidity/dust from backdoor/compressors/cooler/freezer/preparation area.
