Apparatus Test Technician

Job Description

Seeking an Apparatus Test Technician (NETA I, II, III or NICET-certified) to join our Electrical Power Services team. This role is responsible for testing, troubleshooting, and commissioning electrical power distribution equipment while ensuring safety, quality, and compliance. The technician will work alongside a field crew, travel up to 50% throughout the region, analyze test results, manage project tasks, and prepare detailed service reports.

• Under the supervision of Sr. Technicians, the Apparatus Test Technician will travel to customer sites to inspect, test, troubleshoot, perform start-up and collect data on electrical systems.
• Monitor project progress and communicate scope completion updates with customer management.
• Maintain, repair, rebuild, and replace low-, medium-, and high-voltage switch gear and circuit breakers.
• Troubleshoot and service automatic transfer switches (ATS).
• Perform testing and inspections on low-, medium-, and high-voltage cable systems.
• Maintain, test, and repair transformers and associated electrical equipment.
• Test, calibrate, and troubleshoot solid-state and electromechanical protective relays.
• Conduct low- and medium-voltage motor control center (MCC) and contactor testing.
• Start up, troubleshoot, and repair generator controls and transfer schemes.
• Test and commission protection and control systems for high-voltage substations.
• Perform insulating fluid sampling and analyze test results.
• Conduct Job Hazard Analyses (JHAs), including arc flash and electrical shock risk assessments.
• Complete and submit timecards, expense reports, project documentation, and field service reports.
• Participate in emergency on-call rotations as required.
• Ensure compliance with all applicable safety regulations, industry standards, and company policies.

• 2+ years of experience performing electrical apparatus testing on transformers, switch gear, and circuit breakers.
• Familiar with NETA Acceptance and Maintenance Testing Standards.
• Familiar with NFPA 70E electrical safety requirements.
• Proven ability to diagnose and troubleshoot electrical system performance issues.
• Familiarity with lockout/tagout (LOTO) procedures and hazardous energy control practices.
• Ability and willingness to travel regionally up to 50%.
• Valid driver's license with a clean driving record and ability to pass a drug screening.
• NETA I, II, or III Certification
• NICET equivalent Certification
