Purpose Of The Classification
Responsible for ensuring the safety of facility patrons by preventing and responding to emergencies.
Essential Tasks- Recognize and respond effectively in emergencies.
- Use communication signals to notify lifeguards and call head guard when needing assistance.
- Enforce all aquatic facility policies, rules, and regulations.
- Inspect the facility on a daily schedule and report any unsafe conditions or equipment to the supervisor.
- Complete records and reports.
- Participate in regular in-service training sessions.
- Maintain a polite, positive attitude when dealing with the public. Use assertive voice when enforcing rules to the public.
- Complete opening and closing tasks including equipment set‑up, cleaning restroom facilities, power washing, vacuuming pools, picking up trash, and testing chemicals.
- Perform other work as necessary and/or as assigned.
- Must report to work on a regular and timely basis.
The Lifeguard reports directly to the Aquatic Supervisor.
The Lifeguard does not have any direct reports or supervisory responsibilities.
QualificationsTraining and
Experience:
Must be at least 16 years of age. No previous experience required.
Knowledge, Abilities, and
Skills:
Thorough knowledge and application of lifeguarding surveillance and rescue techniques; an understanding of facility characteristics, rules, policies, and procedures; leadership and public relations and decision making skills; knowledge of First Aid and CPR. Ability to swim and prepare administrative paperwork. Ability to react calmly and effectively in emergency situations.

While performing duties of this job, employee is frequently required to stand;

Must be able to perform life‑saving skills including lifting a person off of the bottom and out of the water (average weight 150 pounds). Vision, speech, and hearing sufficient to perform essential tasks; specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision, color vision, and the ability to adjust focus.
Punctuality and reasonable attendance is essential. Must submit to drug screening and fitness to work physical exam.
Licenses and Certificates: Possession of a valid Oklahoma Class D driver’s license is required. Requires Lifeguard Training Certification, Pro‑Rescuer CPR, AED and First Aid Certification.
Working EnvironmentThe employee is exposed to hot, wet, and humid conditions. The noise level in the work environment is usually loud in the field. The employee is exposed to pool chemicals that must be handled with extreme caution. Requires ability to work nights, weekends and holidays as scheduled.
