Position Description

To serve as lead postal worker and mail carrier for the USC School of Medicine. Responsible for training others in the various duties involving the distribution and delivery of mail. Responsible for sorting and delivery to over 24 departments and units in the School of Medicine to include campuses adjacent to the Dorn VA Hospital and Palmetto Richland Hospital. To demonstrate commitment to conducting business lawfully and ethically by consistently adhering to compliance policies, procedures and regulations.

Required Education And Experience
  • Typically holds a high school diploma or GED. Requires no prior work experience.
Required Certification, Licensure/Other Credentials
  • Valid Driver’s License
Preferred Qualifications
  • Knowledge of the various types of mail and the proper handling of each.
  • Must be able to courteously and effectively deal with the public and other employees.
  • Excellent oral communication skills essential. Familiarity with computer keyboard helpful.
  • Required to conduct business lawfully and ethically by consistently adhering to compliance policies, procedures and regulations.
Job Duties
  • Responsible for the preparation of parcels. Signs for and records any registered or insured mail. Responsible for pick up and delivery of UPS mail to USC’s main post office.

  • Trains Support Services staff in carrier and postal duties. Instructs temporary worker in the handling and delivery of mail.

  • Researches incorrectly or incompletely addressed mail.

    - 10%
  • Coordinates the sorting and processing of large volumes of mail. Lifts and dumps bags and/or tubs of mail for breakdown by mail class, departments and units. Recommends to Manager of Support Services changes regarding established routes and/or workloads.

  • Collects, receives, transports and delivers correspondence and packages to over 24 departments and units within the School of Medicine. Drives a University vehicle.
