The South Carolina Department of Consumer Affairs is the state’s consumer protection agency. We’re looking for a dependable, energetic, self-starter with good communication skills to join our agency in providing excellent customer service for staff, consumers, and businesses in our Legal Division.
SCDCA’s Legal Division performs the agency’s licensing, administration, and enforcement duties related to the majority of the laws under the agency’s jurisdiction. The individual in this role is responsible for processing registered creditors filings, including maximum rate schedules, credit grantor notification, motor vehicle dealer closing fees, and credit card disclosures.
DAY-TO-DAY ACTIVITIES- Conduct screening of registered creditors filings in a timely manner to ensure all necessary information is received for processing.
- Answer routine filing questions via telephone, email, and walk‑in requests.
- Respond to voicemail messages and emails in a timely manner.
- Provide support as needed to staff including other licensing examiners and attorneys.
- Contribute to individual quality and productivity goals by meeting standards focused on fulfillment of organizational turnaround time expectations, accuracy, and security.
- Perform other related duties as assigned.
A high school diploma and relevant program experience.
Additional Requirements- Professional demeanor and attitude including dress, timeliness, and dependability.
- Ability to interact with people from diverse backgrounds and deal courteously with the general public and staff.
- Ability to exercise judgment and discretion in interpreting and applying policies and procedures.
- Paralegal certification and/or experience.
- Excellent communication skills, both verbal and written.
- Ability to multitask including handling a multi‑line phone and working in multiple databases.
- Ability to plan and organize work activities and prioritize task completion according to schedules and goals.
- Well organized and able to work independently.
- Some knowledge of state and federal consumer protection laws.
- Exceptional attention to detail.
- Proficiency with Microsoft Outlook, Excel, and Word, as well as hardware devices such as scanners, copiers, and fax machines.
