The Operations Manager is responsible for managing and coordinating the day to day operations of the company to ensure safety, quality, schedule adherence, and profitability across all projects. This role focuses on disciplined execution of operational plans, consistent application of company standards, and proactive problem solving to support business objectives.

Organizational Relationships The Operations Manager reports directly to the President of Palmetto Sitework Services. Normal inside contacts include field leadership, superintendents, project managers, preconstruction and estimating teams, accounting, construction administration, human resources, and IT. Outside contacts include clients, SC Department of Transportation, counties, municipalities, engineers, subcontractors, vendors, and inspectors as required to support operations.

Job Duties & Responsibilities Manage daily operational activities to ensure projects are executed safely, efficiently, on schedule, and within budget, while meeting contract requirements and company standards.

Enforce compliance with the company’s safety, quality, scheduling, and production management programs; support project planning, coordination, and customer service efforts across all active work.

Communicate regularly with the President, project teams, accounting, and other stakeholders regarding overall project status, cost forecasts, schedules, equipment utilization, cash flow, change orders, and risk mitigation strategies.

Track and analyze project performance related to cost, schedule, productivity, and staffing; identify issues early and implement corrective actions to protect profitability.

Ensure operational profitability by communicating regularly with the President, the Division Managers, Controller, Project Managers, Superintendents, and other relevant stakeholders to discuss cost forecasts and cost at completion, cost reports, work schedules, equipment and resource management, and pay applications.

Coordinate with preconstruction and estimating teams to support constructability reviews, operational input during bidding, and smooth transitions from award to execution.

Ensure project teams have a thorough understanding of contract documents including drawings, specifications, scopes, and submittals; support consistent administration of subcontracts and purchase orders.

Assist with preparation of weekly, monthly, quarterly, and annual operational reports related to schedules, resources, and financial performance.

Proactively identify operational risks related to safety, staffing, subcontractor performance, scheduling, and constructability; lead timely mitigation efforts in coordination with project leadership.

Lead and support superintendents and project managers through clear expectations, coaching, mentoring, and accountability.

Drive consistent use of standard operating procedures, best practices, and technology tools to improve efficiency and project outcomes.

Support client relationships by ensuring strong communication, responsiveness, and overall satisfaction with project performance.

Maintain working knowledge of industry trends, construction methods, and operational technologies relevant to sitework and highway construction.

Education & Certification – Related education and or experience in construction operations, construction management, engineering, or business. OSHA 30 completion card required. Strong computer and construction software skills preferred.

Recommended Work Experience – 7 to 12 years of relevant experience in sitework and or roadway or highway construction, with a minimum of 5 years in an operational or project leadership role managing multiple projects and teams.

Physical Demands – Prolonged standing, sitting, walking, climbing, balancing, bending, stooping, kneeling, crouching, crawling, reaching, handling, talking, hearing, depth perception, and lifting or moving up to 50 plus pounds.

Working Conditions – Regular local and regional travel to project sites, meetings, and client locations required. Work is performed in office and field environments with exposure to varying weather conditions and construction site hazards. Extended hours may be required to meet operational demands. Primary workspace will be within the main office.
