Description
Responsibilities Instruction & Student Support- Ensure students with disabilities have equitable access to the general curriculum and the same learning opportunities as non-disabled peers.
- Provide specialized instructions: small group, push-in, pull-out, or 1:1—aligned with each student’s IEP goals and services.
- Collaborate daily with classroom teachers to ensure IEP goals, accommodations, modifications, and service minutes are implemented with fidelity.
- Adjust instruction based on student needs, progress monitoring data, and team recommendations.
- Develop behavior intervention plans as needed and monitor progress regularly.
- Provide intervention and progress monitoring for students receiving tiered supports (MTSS/RTI) who are not yet identified for Special Education services.
- Write, update, and manage compliant IEPs in accordance with IDEA and SCDE state regulations.
- Collect input from classroom teachers to develop measurable, standard-aligned goals.
- Conduct and lead IEP meetings, ensuring meaningful parent participation and accurate documentation.
- Ensure all IEPs, evaluations, eligibility determinations, and service plans are completed within state and federal timelines.
- Maintain accurate Special Education files, including documentation of parent communication, service logs, progress monitoring, and team meeting notes.
- Ensure confidentiality of student records and secure handling of Special Education files.
- Work with related service providers (Speech, OT, PT, School Psychologist, Behavior Specialists, etc.) to ensure coordinated and compliant services.
- Facilitate eligibility/reevaluation processes by gathering teacher input, monitoring data, and coordinating with the school psychologist and evaluators.
- Review evaluation reports for accuracy and seek clarification when needed.
- Monitor student progress toward IEP goals through data collection and assessments.
- Collaborate with teachers to complete progress reports each grading period.
- Update goal progress, service minutes, and instructional adjustments based on evaluation data.
- Ensure compliance with all state timelines for evaluations, IEP reviews, and progress reporting.
- Review and update 504 plans annually in compliance with federal Section 504 regulations.
- Facilitate 504 meetings with parents and staff.
- Ensure accommodation is implemented and documented.
- Coordinate and provide testing accommodation during state and local assessments per IEP/504 requirements.
- Assist with scheduling, monitoring, and test security during assessment windows.
- Establish strong, collaborative relationships with families to support student progress and IEP implementation.
- Maintain open and ongoing communication with parents/guardians.
- Collaborate with school leadership, teachers, and support staff to ensure successful implementation of special education services.
- Participate in professional development, MTSS/RTI meetings, staff meetings, and charter-school events as required.
- Always maintain student confidentiality.
- Complete any SCDE-required special education reporting, documentation, or data collection.
- Perform additional duties as assigned by the Principal or Charter School Management Team.
- Valid South Carolina teaching certification in Special Education (e.g., Multi-Categorical, Learning Disabilities, Emotional Disabilities, Intellectual Disabilities) or eligibility under charter school hiring flexibility permitted by S.C. Code § 59-40-50.
- Knowledge of IDEA, Section 504, MTSS, evaluation procedures, and SCDE special education regulations.
- Strong communication and collaboration skills.
- Effective organizational skills and ability to meet strict state and federal deadlines.
- Ability to implement specialized instruction and behavior supports.
- Successful completion of state and federal background checks including FBI fingerprinting.
- Experience in Special Education within a charter school or diverse student population.
- Experience working with MTSS/RTI frameworks.
- Experience collaborating with school psychologists and related service providers.
- Strong technology skills, including use of IEP software platforms (e.g., Enrich or comparable SCDE-approved systems).
