The South Carolina State Museum is seeking a creative and organized Learning Experiences Coordinator to support the development and implementation of engaging informal learning opportunities for children, families, and lifelong learners.

Working under the direction of the Manager of Education & Experiences, this position coordinates camps, family learning opportunities, accessibility initiatives, scout programs, educational events, and other informal learning experiences that encourage everyone to experience wonder and the joy of learning.

The Learning Experiences Coordinator helps ensure museum learning experiences remain welcoming, innovative, accessible, and aligned with the museum’s educational philosophy and strategic goals.

Responsibilities and Duties:

Camp Programs & Informal Learning Experiences:
  • Coordinate the implementation and day-to-day operations of the museum's camp programs, including logistics, registration support, caregiver communication, staffing coordination, documentation, and program evaluation.
  • Assist with the development, implementation, and continuous improvement of camp curricula under the direction of the Manager of Education & Experiences and with other Audience Engagement team members.
  • Support and supervise camp staff, seasonal educators, and assigned part-time educators.
  • Coordinate family learning opportunities, scout workshops, assist with homeschool programs, and other informal educational experiences.
  • Deliver high-quality educational programs in a variety of informal learning environments.
  • Assist with the implementation of inquiry-based, invention education, maker-centered, and project-based learning experiences.
Accessibility & Special Programs:
  • Coordinate accessibility-focused educational programs including Accessibility Mornings, Disability Celebration Day, and related initiatives.
  • Support the implementation of accessibility adaptations and inclusive practices across camps, educational programs, and informal learning experiences.
  • Collaborate with museum departments to develop educational components for public programs, member events, and special initiatives.
  • Collaborate with museum departments toidentifytraining needs and coordinate professional learning opportunities that promote consistent educational practices, inclusive experiences, and high-quality visitor engagement.
  • Assist with accessibility advisory groups, listening sessions, and community feedback efforts.
  • Support the development of educational experiences connected to exhibitions and museum-wide initiatives.
  • Coordinate andmaintainaccessibility resources across the museum, ensuring materialsremainorganized, accessible, well-stocked, and in good working order whenever a guest needs them.
Program Administration & Staff Support:
  • Coordinate scheduling,logistics, staffing, and communication for assigned programs and events including the coordination of ASL interpreters as needed.
  • Assist with hiring, onboarding, training, and supervision of seasonal and part-time education staff.
  • Lead staffing coordination for camps and special programs through scheduling platforms and internal systems.
  • Maintain educational materials, supply inventories, storage spaces, and program resources.
  • Conduct regular inventory audits and assist with purchasing recommendations and budget stewardship.
  • Maintain program records, attendance information, incident documentation, and evaluation data.
Partnerships, Outreach & Evaluation:
  • Represent the museum at educational conferences, workshops, and outreach opportunities asneeded.
  • Support teacher professional development, homeschool initiatives, and educator engagement efforts as needed.
