The Air Force Family Advocacy Program (FAP) is a Department of Defense (DoD) funded program whose purpose is to prevent and respond to intimate partner, child abuse, and problematic sexual behavior with children and youth.
OverviewThis position is located at the Family Advocacy Program, 628 MDG/Joint Base Charleston, 1005 Jefferson Ave, Bldg 786, NWS, Goose Creek, SC 29445. The program operates under the 628th Air Base Wing, a subordinate element of the Air Mobility Command.

ResponsibilitiesThe FAN is responsible for implementing and managing the new Parent Support Program (NPSP) while functioning as a member of the interdisciplinary FAP team. The main focus is to deliver comprehensive home‑based prevention services to families to prevent child and partner maltreatment.
Day‑to‑day duties include:
- Providing home‑visit services that include education, support, and anticipatory guidance on growth and development, nutrition, parenting, attachment/bonding, family health issues, family violence dynamics, problem solving, communication skills, and bereavement.
- Conducting assessments and developing individualized care plans for families with children 0‑3 years.
- Documenting all visits and services in the Family Advocacy System of Records or Family Advocacy Program Network in compliance with AF FAP standards.
- Collaborating with interdisciplinary team members and external agencies as needed.
- Performing any additional duties as assigned.
- Registered Nurse (RN) with a current unrestricted U.S. state nursing license.
- BSN from an accredited institution.
- Minimum 2 years of post‑BSN experience as a maternal/child or community health nurse.
- Home‑visiting experience preferred.
- Basic Life Support Certification (Course
C) required. - Current in maternal/child and family violence prevention nursing practice.
- Valid driver’s license and willingness to travel between office, private homes, and facilities.
- Ability to interact with all types of clients and build rapport with families expecting or having children ages 0‑3.
- Proficient computer skills, including Microsoft Office and data entry.
- Experience using the Family Advocacy System of Records or Family Advocacy Program Network for documenting client visits and treatments.
- Frequent sitting, standing, walking, using hands, and reaching with arms; occasional kneeling, stooping, and crouching.
- May lift up to 20 pounds.
The role routinely uses standard office equipment such as computers, phones, copiers, filing cabinets, and fax machines.
Travel may be required as needed, primarily local during business hours.
Position Type / Expected Hours of WorkThis is a full‑time position with general hours 07:30–16:30, Monday through Friday, except U.S. Holidays when the facility is closed.
Work Authorization / Security ClearanceMust obtain and maintain a NACI Clearance.
US Citizenship RequiredMust possess a current, active, full, and unrestricted license or registration as a professional nurse from a U.S. state, District of Columbia, Puerto Rico, or U.S. territory; must have passed the National Council Licensure Examination.
Education Accreditation RequirementsMust possess and maintain a graduate or higher level degree, bachelor’s degree, associate degree, or diploma from an accredited nursing educational program. Accreditation by the Commission on Collegiate Nursing Education, Council on Accreditation of Nurse Anesthesia Educational Programs, Accreditation Commission for Midwifery Education, or another U.S. Department of Education‑recognized accrediting body is required.
