Responsibilities
- Provide direct care to students, including medication administration, first aid, and emergency medical assistance.
- Conduct nursing assessments, treatments, and provide medical care for routine and acute visits.
- Maintain satisfactory medical records, recording and reporting student symptoms, reactions, and progress.
- Report pertinent medical information to the school physician and/or Nursing Administrator.
- Dispense medication and other treatments and arrange appointments and follow‑up visits with the school’s Medical Director and/or Pediatric Nurse Practitioner.
- Prepare medications and paperwork for field trips and delegate medication administration to approved Unlicensed Assistive Personnel, as allowed by state law.
- Perform other related nursing duties as assigned or required.
- Coordinate documentation organization as directed by DHEC, Medicaid, and SCSDB policies and procedures.
- Create and maintain Individualized Health Plans (IHPs) and Emergency Action Plans (EAPs) and complete other documentation required for compliance with healthcare regulations.
- Provide supervision and instruction to other medical professionals and para‑professionals in the treatment or care of students.
- Liaise between school health services, parents, physicians, and other related disciplines.
- Communicate using modalities appropriate to employment placement (if required).
- Graduation from an accredited school of nursing program (Associate’s or Bachelor’s Degree).
- Current South Carolina RN license issued by the State Board of Nursing.
- Three years of full‑time nursing experience.
- Knowledge of school nursing practice and DHEC requirements related to schools (preferred).
- Sound understanding of nursing principles and practice, ability to follow detailed technical instructions, and to independently make decisions and perform work.
- Ability to prepare and present educational programs to non‑medical and medical personnel.
- Excellent computer skills.
- Ability to develop, foster, and promote interdisciplinary relationships with nurses, teachers, dorm staff, parents, physicians, etc.
- Clear, professional written and verbal communication and presentations.
