Environmental Health Safety Coordinator – Conway, SC

Summary:

The Environmental Health and Safety Coordinator is responsible for providing strategic assistance to the facility EHS Manager to ensure compliance with and effective implementation of all applicable EHS regulations applicable to the Conway Facility while imparting a preventive/active safety-driven culture. The position reports directly to the Conway Facility EHS Manager.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities
  • Program Support:
    Assist in the implementation of safety programs and initiatives to maintain a safe working environment in compliance with local, state, and federal regulations.
  • Inspections and Audits:
    Conduct regular inspections of the plant to identify potential hazards and safety concerns (e.g., machinery, electrical systems, chemical handling) and help ensure corrective actions are implemented.
  • Incident Reporting:
    Support the tracking and documentation of workplace accidents, near‑misses, injuries, and safety concerns. Participate in investigations to determine root causes and assist in recommending improvements.
  • Training and

    Education:

    Assist in the scheduling and coordination of employee training on environmental permits, safety procedures, emergency response, and the proper use of personal protective equipment (PPE).
  • PPE Management:
    Help monitor and maintain PPE inventory, ensuring proper distribution, usage, and compliance with safety standards across the plant.
  • Safety Awareness:
    Collaborate with the facility EHS Manager to promote safety culture and awareness through signage, meetings, and ongoing communication.
  • Regulatory Compliance:
    Assist in ensuring the plant remains compliant with OSHA, EPA, SC DES and other regulatory agencies.
  • Documentation and Reporting:
    Support the preparation and submission of required safety and environmental reports to governmental agencies and internal stakeholders.
  • Emergency Preparedness:
    Assist in emergency preparedness drills (e.g., fire drills, evacuation procedures) and maintenance of emergency response plans.
  • Waste and Environmental Compliance:
    Support efforts to minimize environmental impact by assisting with waste management practices.
  • Continuous Improvement:
    Participate in safety meetings and contribute ideas to improve EHS policies and practices within the plant.
  • Other:
    Other duties as directed by the Conway Facility EHS Manager and the Aalberts IPSA EHS Director.
Qualifications
  • High school diploma or GED required. Associate’s degree in Occupational Health and Safety, Environmental Science, Industrial Engineering, or a related field preferred.
  • OSHA 10‑Hour or 30‑Hour General Industry Certification (or willingness to obtain).
  • First Aid and CPR Certification (or willingness to obtain).
  • Any additional safety certifications (e.g., HAZWOPER, Fire Safety, etc.) are a plus.
  • 2‑3 years previous experience in a manufacturing or industrial environment is preferred.
  • Familiarity with basic EHS concepts and regulatory standards (OSHA, EPA, etc.).
  • Experience with conducting inspections or audits is a plus but not mandatory.
Skills and Knowledge
  • Strong understanding of workplace safety principles and practices.
  • Excellent attention to detail and ability to spot potential hazards.
  • Good communication skills (both written and verbal) for reporting safety concerns and interacting with employees at all levels.
  • Previous experience working with Microsoft Office Suite (Word, Excel, PowerPoint) for documentation and reporting is required.
  • Ability to follow procedures, instructions, and regulations precisely.
  • Strong organizational and time‑management skills to handle multiple tasks and responsibilities effectively.
  • Ability to work collaboratively with a diverse team and foster a safety‑first culture.
  • Strong problem‑solving skills and the ability to think critically in emergency or high‑pressure situations.
  • Proactive attitude and willingness to learn.
  • Dependable and responsible with a strong sense of integrity.
  • A passion for safety and promoting a healthy work environment.
