Laboratory Director, Biobehavioral Research Center
Job Summary: The laboratory director is professionally responsible for the overall management and operation of the Biobehavioral Research Center, ensuring its smooth functioning and compliance with local, state, and federal regulations.
Key Responsibilities- Leadership and Management – Hire, supervise, mentor laboratory staff; train and re-qualify staff.
- Operational Oversight – Develop testing systems, policies, and procedures; manage laboratory budget and financial resources.
- Technical Oversight – Collect, store, inventory biological specimens; conduct analyses; maintain and calibrate equipment; develop quality control procedures; interpret data.
- Communication and Collaboration – Liaise with the Assistant Dean for Research and other departments; communicate findings; support grant applications.
- Safety and Maintenance – Establish safety protocols, maintain safe environment, oversee inventory, stay updated on technology, facilitate audits.
- Bachelor’s degree in a related field and 5+ years of relevant experience, or equivalent combination of education, training, and experience.
- Master’s degree in a relevant field preferred.
- Experience in a supervisory or management role and familiarity with behavioral research.
- Ability to analyze data using inferential techniques and present information effectively.
- Knowledge of laboratory procedures including ELISA, Western Blot, DNA/RNA extraction, PCR, and real‑time PCR.
- Consultation skills for study design and grant applications.
