This employee will serve as a wildlife biologist for Bear Island located in Unit 4C.
Job
Duties Include:
- Supervising and conducting the management of wetland habitat on Bear Island.
- Monitoring and controlling invasive plant species as they are discovered.
- Maintaining updated work plans and objectives in order to conduct necessary maintenance and repairs on the waterfowl area infrastructure.
- Maintaining necessary paperwork, performing purchasing duties, compiling reports, keeping up to date reports, tracking and adhering to budgets and updating management plan as needed.
- Supervising and conducting public hunt programs and other public use programs on Bear Island.
- Supervising and conducting maintenance of non-wetland related infrastructure and upland habitat on Bear Island.
- Banding waterfowl both on site and off property.
- Collecting other survey data as required.
A master's degree in biology, chemistry or related technical area field; or a bachelor's degree in biology, chemistry, wildlife management or related technical area and two (2) years of experience relevant to the job.
Ability to manage both freshwater and brackish water habitats for waterfowl usage. Ability to conduct public hunts for the general public. Familiarity with dike maintenance, bulkhead installation and trunk construction and installation. Experience in conducting rice trunk style management is preferred. Ability to identify wetland plants beneficial to waterfowl. Ability to supervise staff, manage budgets, collect data, and compile monthly reports.
Ability to work with the general public, work early mornings and late evenings, on some weekends, and in inclement buggy conditions.
