Position: Highway Maintenance Worker II - Bridge Crew Equipment Operator (61036461)

Job Responsibilities

  • Performs skilled labor and excavator operation in setting, driving, and cutting of treated timber and steel piles.
  • Responsible for setting concrete caps and bridge deck slabs.
  • Performs skilled labor and backhoe operation in grading, constructing catch basins, setting forms, and pouring and finishing concrete for bridge caps, sidewalks, and curb and gutter.
  • Operates a lowboy truck tractor as necessary to transport the crane, materials, and/or other equipment where needed.
  • Performs manual labor while constructing handrails, attaching bridge hardware, cleaning bridge decks, and other associated maintenance activities.
  • Assists with emergency and inclement weather operations; may include extended hours and/or 12‑hour shifts.
Minimum and Additional Requirements
  • One year of related work experience, or an approved acceptable equivalence.
  • Valid motor vehicle operator’s license; requirement to attain a Class A Commercial Driver’s License (CDL) within six months of placement.
  • Physical demands include bending, stooping, reaching, twisting, climbing, balancing, kneeling, pushing, pulling, and grasping; must be able to lift up to 50 lbs. Walking for extended periods, treading rough terrain, working in close proximity to motoring traffic, and working in natural environmental hazards.
  • May be required to work outside normal scheduled work week, especially during inclement weather and/or other departmental‑related emergencies.
  • May be required to work overtime, nighttime, and/or weekends during hazardous weather or emergencies.
