A Day in the Life

In this exciting role as the Senior EHS Specialist, you will develop, administer and implement EHS programs at the Mystic, CT facility. The Mystic site supports the manufacturing of specialized medical components, including high‑precision filters used in insulin pump systems and other surgical or medical device products, playing an important role in delivering innovative therapies that improve patient outcomes worldwide.

In this role, you will lead the execution of comprehensive EHS programs aligned with regulatory and Medtronic standards, including hazardous energy control, industrial safety, environmental compliance and sustainability reporting. You will partner with cross‑functional teams to identify risks, drive corrective and preventative actions, and support safe, compliant operations. This includes leading incident investigations, supporting audits, overseeing environmental monitoring and reporting, and promoting a strong culture of safety through training, engagement and continuous improvement initiatives.

Responsibilities
  • Develop, administer and implement environmental, health and safety programs in accordance with governmental and company requirements. These programs include, but are not limited to:
    Control of Hazardous Energy, Hazard Communication, Personal Protective Equipment, Ergonomics, Contractor Safety, Emergency Action & Fire Prevention, Injury and Spill Investigation and Reporting, Respiratory Protection, Electrical Safety, Hot Work, Job Safety Analysis, Powered Industrial Trucks, Management of Change, Wastewater Permit Compliance, Drinking Water Management, Air Emission Tracking, Hazardous & Non‑Hazardous Waste Management, Green House Gas Tracking.
  • Interact with site management to ensure compliance with EHS programs and resolve compliance / company requirement gaps.
  • Interact with regulatory bodies to resolve compliance gaps and assist in regulatory audits.
  • Work with cross‑functional team to investigate injuries and environmental incidents and ensure corrective/preventative actions are implemented, including engineering controls and organizational measures to protect workers’ safety or prevent environmental incidents through revised methods, processes or materials.
  • Provide and promote employee awareness and training on matters of EHS.
  • Conduct EHS reviews for new product development, facility modification, product manufacturing modifications and new equipment/machinery installations.
  • Develop and drive programs and policies to improve Safety Culture and better understanding of risk.
  • Lead site Environmental Action Group (EAG) that monitors pollution prevention activities and supports efforts to reduce environmental impact.
  • Manage hazardous waste compliance.
  • Collect regulatory data from environmental monitoring systems and certified laboratories and utilize the data to generate regulatory reports such as Tier II, TRI and monthly/annual air emissions.
  • Collect and compile site waste data for company sustainability reporting.
  • Oversee wastewater and drinking water sampling and analyze sample results for compliance.
Minimum Requirements
  • Bachelor’s degree with a minimum of 4 years of relevant experience
  • OR an advanced degree with 2+ years relevant experience
Preferred Qualifications
  • Familiarity with CT, OSHA and EPA regulations for health, safety and environmental programs
