SUMMARY
This is a journey-level position responsible for overseeing the business and financial operations of a department. Responsible for accounting, bookkeeping, and recordkeeping, balancing accounts and preparing reports, and administering budgets. Responsible for any combination of the following duties and for serving as backup toother business coordinators within the department. Works under general supervision, with moderate latitude for the use of initiative and independent judgment. Reports to Associate Director of Student Business Services (SBS).
QUALIFICATIONS
Bachelor’s degree in accounting, business, or a related field is required. Related experience may be substituted for required education on a basis set forth by the Department of Human Resources.
Two years of related experience is required. Experience in bookkeeping or fiscal accounting, general office procedures, and computer data entry and retrieval is required. Experience in higher education is preferred.
ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS
Answers phone calls, replies to emails, and processes mail in atimely and professional manner.Reviews student accounts and documents for errors or discrepancies, investigates miscellaneous charges, credits accounts if corrections are indicated, and explains account transactions or balances.Processes contract payments for student accounts and generates bills to contracting entities.Processes student waivers and exemptions in accordance with Texas Education Code after documenting requirements.Receives and/or supervises the receipt of payments from students and others for university sponsored events and services.Balances and/or oversees balancing of cash drawers, individual accounts, and deposits; updates the accounting system.Prepares and/or assists with daily deposits.Prepares or posts journal, ledger, and voucher records from supporting data.Coordinates accounting/bookkeeping functions within the department.Maintains, manages, and reconciles receivables, payables,budgets, and other business accounts within the department.Assists academic units and grants with accounting-related functions.Prepares daily, monthly, quarterly, annual, and special report sand statements.Interprets departmental and university policies and procedures for students, faculty, staff, and the general public .Maintains and updates departmental procedures.May compute hourly and monthly payroll records and verify timesheets and personnel action request forms for budgetary conformity.Distributes payroll checks. Releases or deposits financial aidchecks via automated student account receipt system. Assists in the processing of student refunds.Oversees cash receipts training for university employees.Trains and provides work direction to student tellers.NON-ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS
