SUMMARY
The Department of Biology at Stephen
F. Austin State University welcomes applications for two tenure-track Assistant Professor positions. Candidates will integrate into a highly collaborative and interdisciplinary environment that fosters research and education across concentrations in cellular and molecular biology; conservation, ecology and evolution; and aquatic biology (freshwater and marine). Ideal candidates will be able to teach undergraduate and graduate courses. In addition, successful candidates will be expected to develop a research program and engage graduate and undergraduate students in their research.
- Ph.D. in Biology, or a closely related field by the time of the appointment.
- Demonstrated commitment to excellence in teaching.
- Ability to develop a productive research program.
- Ability to effectively mentor undergraduate and graduate students.
- Postdoctoral research experience.
- Ability to provide evidence of scholarly productivity and potential for securing external funding.
- Ability to conduct interdisciplinary research and teach across concentrations.
- Teaches undergraduate and graduate courses in their area of expertise and foundational biology courses.
- Establishes and maintains an independent research program.
- Mentors undergraduate and graduate students.
- Provides service to department, college, and the university.
This is a full‑time, nine‑month, tenure‑track faculty position responsible for contributing significantly to Stephen
F. Austin State University’s undergraduate and/or graduate programs through teaching, scholarship/creative accomplishment, and service. Works under minimal supervision, with extensive latitude for the use of initiative and independent judgment. Reports to the chair.
Terminal degree in the field in which the individual will be teaching is required. ABD candidates may be considered if Ph.D. is earned prior to start date.
The rank of Assistant Professor is held by an individual who demonstrates the capability to produce research/scholarly/creative accomplishments, teach effectively, and provide service to the academic and general communities.
