Wage/Hour Status: Exempt

Reports to: Principal

Pay Grade: Admin 5 (207 days) $65,558-$101,115

Primary Purpose

Assist the school principal in the overall administration of the instructional program and operations at the campus level, and coordinate assigned student activities and services.

Qualifications
  • Master's degree in educational administration.
  • Texas mid‑management or other appropriate Texas certificate.
  • Certified T‑TESS appraiser.
Special Knowledge and Skills
  • Knowledge of curriculum and instruction.
  • Ability to evaluate instructional programs and teaching effectiveness.
  • Strong communication, human relations, and interpersonal skills.
  • Thorough understanding of school administrative operations.
  • Strong organizational, communication, and interpersonal skills.
Experience
  • Three to five years teaching or equivalent experience (e.g., instructional coach, department chair, or team leader).
Major Responsibilities and Duties
  • Participate in the development and evaluation of educational programs.
  • Encourage and support the development of innovative instructional programs, helping teachers pilot such efforts when appropriate.
  • Facilitate the use of technology in the teaching/learning process.
  • Conduct instructional observations and conferences with staff that result in diagnostic and prescriptive feedback for growth and improved performance.
  • Facilitate staff development including in‑service activities, workshops, and support materials.
  • Promote a positive, caring climate for learning.
  • Deal sensitively and fairly with individuals from diverse cultural backgrounds.
  • Employ effective interpersonal skills.
  • Participate in collaborative processes to develop campus improvement plans with staff, parents, and community members.
  • Assist the principal in developing, maintaining, and using appropriate information systems and records necessary for campus performance objectives and academic excellence indicators.
  • Actively support efforts to achieve district and campus performance goals.
  • Observe staff performances, record observations, and conduct evaluation conferences.
  • Assist in interviewing, selecting, and orienting new staff.
  • Provide effective staff development and training activities.
  • Supervise operations in the absence of the regular principal.
  • Assist in the daily organization of the school including class scheduling, teacher assignments, and extracurricular activities.
  • Supervise the reporting and monitoring of student attendance and work with the attendance supervisor on investigative follow‑up actions.
  • Requisition supplies, textbooks, and equipment; conduct inventories; maintain records; and verify receipts.
  • Cooperate in conducting safety inspections and safety drill practices.
  • Coordinate transportation, custodial, cafeteria, and other support services.
  • Attend all regular special meetings of the Board of Education and executive or study sessions when requested by the superintendent.
  • Implement policies established by federal and state law, State Board of Education rules, and local board policy.
  • Coordinate and provide adequate supervision of students during non‑instructional periods.
  • Develop a student management system that results in positive student behavior.
  • Ensure that school rules are uniformly observed and that student discipline is appropriate and equitable.
  • Conduct conferences with parents, students, and teachers concerning school and student issues.
  • Coordinate and provide adequate supervision of student health services.
  • Ensure appropriate and equitable student discipline management, student attendance/truancy, and in‑school suspension/AEP programs.
  • Conduct ARD meetings.
  • Articulate the school's mission to the community and solicit support.
  • Initiate activities to meet identified school/community needs.
  • Use appropriate and effective techniques for community and parent involvement.
  • Develop professional skills appropriate to the job assignment.
  • Demonstrate professional, ethical, and responsible behavior.
  • Monitor professional research and disseminate ideas and information to other professionals.
  • Adhere to professional ethical standards in relationships with students, teachers, parents, patrons, peers, and support staff.
  • Work cooperatively with others to develop and attain campus performance objectives.
  • Exhibit punctuality, dependability, flexibility, a friendly personality, appropriate attire, sense of humor, poise, and perform other tasks as assigned by the principal.
Supervisory Responsibilities

Assist in supervising and evaluating the performance of teachers, counselors, librarians, and support staff.

Working Conditions

Ability to communicate effectively (verbal and written); coordinate campus support functions; maintain emotional control under stress.

Occasional district and statewide travel; frequent prolonged and irregular hours.
