Primary Purpose

Assist the school principal in the overall administration of the instructional program and operations at the campus level.

Coordinate assigned student activities and services.

Qualifications

Education/Certification:

Master's degree in educational administration;
Texas mid‑management or other appropriate Texas certificate;
Certified T‑TESS appraiser.

Special Knowledge & Skills

Knowledge of curriculum and instruction; ability to evaluate instructional programs and teaching effectiveness; strong communication, human relations, and interpersonal skills; thorough understanding of school administrative operations; strong organizational, communication, and interpersonal skills.

Experience

Three to five years teaching or equivalent.

Major Responsibilities and Duties Instructional Management
  • Participates in the development and evaluation of educational programs.
  • Encourages and supports the development of innovative instructional programs, helping teachers to pilot such efforts when appropriate.
  • Facilitates the use of technology in the teaching/learning process.
  • Conduct instructional observations and conferences with staff that result in diagnostic and prescriptive feedback for growth and improved performance.
  • Facilitate staff development including in‑service activities, workshops, and support materials.

  • Deals sensitively and fairly with persons from diverse cultural backgrounds.

School or Department Improvement
  • Participates in collaborative processes to develop campus improvement plans with staff, parents, and community members.
  • Assists principal in developing, maintaining, and using appropriate information systems and records necessary for the attainment of campus performance objectives and academic excellence indicators.
  • Actively supports the efforts of others to achieve district goals and objectives and campus performance objectives (Academic Excellence Indicators).
Management of Administrative, Fiscal and Facilities Functions
  • Supervises operations in the absence of the regular principal.
  • Assists in the administration of the daily organization of the school including class scheduling, teacher assignments, and extracurricular activities.
  • Supervises the reporting and monitoring of student attendance and works with the attendance supervisor on investigative follow‑up actions.
  • Requisition s supplies, textbooks, and equipment; conducts inventories; maintains records; and verifies receipts for such material.
  • Cooperates in the conducting of safety inspections and safety drill practice activities.
  • Coordinates transportation, custodial, cafeteria, and other support services.
  • Attends all regular special meetings of the Board of Education and executive or study sessions when requested by the Superintendent.
  • Implements the policies established by federal and state law, State Board of Education rule, and local board policy.
Student Management
  • Coordinates and provides adequate supervision of students during non‑instructional periods.
  • Provides input to develop a student management system that results in positive student behavior.
  • Ensures that school rules are uniformly observed and that student discipline is appropriate and equitable.
  • Conducts conferences with parents, students, and teachers concerning school and student issues.
  • Coordinates and provides adequate supervision of student health services.
  • Ensures that student discipline management, student attendance/truancy, and in‑school‑suspension/AEP programs are appropriate and equitable for all students.
  • Conducts ARD meetings.
  • Acknowledges cultural diversity among students and staff.
School or Community Relations
  • Articulates the school's mission to the community and solicits its support in realizing the mission.
  • Demonstrates awareness of school/community needs and initiates activities to meet those identified needs.
  • Uses appropriate and effective techniques for community and parent involvement.
