Position Title
Assistant Principal, Secondary (Exempt)
Primary PurposeAssist the school principal in the overall administration of the instructional program and operations at the campus level. Coordinate assigned student activities and services.
Qualifications- Master’s degree in educational administration
- Texas mid‑management or other appropriate Texas certificate
- Certified T–TESS appraiser
- Knowledge of curriculum and instruction
- Ability to evaluate instructional programs and teaching effectiveness
- Strong communication, human relations, and interpersonal skills
- Thorough understanding of school administrative operations
- Strong organizational, communication, and interpersonal skills
- Three to five years teaching or equivalent (e.g., instructional coach, department chair, or team‑leader assignment)
- Instructional Management
- Participate in the development and evaluation of educational programs.
- Encourage and support the development of innovative instructional programs, helping teachers to pilot such efforts when appropriate.
- Facilitate the use of technology in the teaching/learning process.
- Monitor student attendance.
- Conduct instructional observations and conferences with staff that result in diagnostic and prescriptive feedback for growth and improved performance.
- Facilitate staff development including in‑service activities, workshops, and support materials.

- Participate in collaborative processes to develop campus improvement plans with staff, parents, and community members.
- Assist principal in developing, maintaining, and using appropriate information systems and records necessary for the attainment of campus performance objectives and academic excellence indicators.
- Actively support the efforts of others to achieve district goals and objectives and campus performance objectives (Academic Excellence Indicators).
- Personnel Management
- Observe employee performances, record observations, and conduct evaluation conferences with staff.
- Assist the principal in interviewing, selecting, and orienting new staff.
- Provide effective staff development and training activities by using the mission of the district, program evaluation outcomes, and input from employees and others.
- Management of Administrative, Fiscal and Facilities Functions
- Supervise operations in the absence of the regular principal.
- Assist in the administration of the daily organization of the school including class scheduling, teacher assignments, and extracurricular activities.
- Supervise the reporting and monitoring of student attendance and work with the attendance supervisor on investigative follow‑up actions.
- Requisition supplies, textbooks, and equipment; conduct inventories; maintain records; and verify receipts for such material.
- Cooperate in the conducting of safety inspections and safety drill practice activities.
- Coordinate transportation, custodial, cafeteria, and other support services.
- Attend all regular special meetings of the Board of Education and executive or study sessions when requested by the Superintendent.
- Implement the policies established by federal and state law, State Board of Education rule, and local board policy.
- Student Management
- Coordinate and provide adequate supervision of students during non‑instructional periods.
- Provide input to develop a student management system that results in positive student behavior.
- Ensure that school rules are uniformly observed and that student discipline is appropriate and equitable.
- Conduct conferences with parents, students, and teachers concerning school and student issues.
- Coordinate and provide adequate supervision of student health services.
- Ensure that student discipline management, student attendance/truancy, and in‑school‑suspension/AEP programs are appropriate and equitable for all students.
- Conduct ARD meetings.
- Acknowledge cultural diversity among students and staff.
