Job Title: Classroom Instructional Aide BILINGUAL

Status: Nonexempt

Reports to: Principal and Teacher(s) Assigned

Pay Grade: Clerical PG2 ($17,581-$27,560)

Primary Purpose

Assist teacher in preparation and management of classroom activities and administrative requirements. Work under supervision of a certified teacher.

Qualifications

Education/Certification:

  • High school diploma or GED
  • Valid Texas educational aide certificate
  • Highly‑Qualified Aide Status

Special Knowledge/

Skills:

  • Ability to work well with children
  • Ability to communicate effectively
  • Demonstrates knowledge of reading, writing and math
  • Must be able to read and write in Spanish

Experience:

  • Some experience working with children
Major Responsibilities and Duties Instructional Support
  • Assist teacher in preparing instructional materials and classroom displays.
  • Assist with administration and scoring of objective testing instruments or work assignments.
  • Help maintain neat and orderly classroom.
  • Help with inventory, care, and maintenance of equipment.
  • Help teacher maintain administrative records and prepare required reports.
  • Provide orientation and assistance to substitute teachers.
  • Ensures specific materials and supplies are ready for classroom use.
Student Management
  • Conduct instructional exercises assigned by the teacher; work with individual students or small groups.
  • Help supervise students throughout the school day, inside and outside the classroom. This includes lunchroom, bus, and playground duty.
  • Keep teacher informed of special needs or problems of individual students.
  • Monitors student behavior (e.g., during bus loading, on the playground, in the cafeteria and hallways, and when a teacher is absent from classroom); disciplines students as necessary.
Other
  • Participate in staff development training programs to improve job performance.
  • Participate in faculty meetings and special events as assigned.
  • Perform other duties as assigned by Principal/classroom teacher
  • Provides first aid as necessary.
  • Cleans classrooms or eating areas.

Supervisory Responsibilities: None.

Equipment Used: Operates classroom equipment such as DVD players, computers, CD players, online resources.

Working Conditions:

Mental Demands/Physical Demands/Environmental Factors: Maintain emotional control under stress. Moderate standing, stooping, bending, and lifting.
