Position: PLANNING & ZONING - Planning Coordinator

Are you a highly organized and detail-oriented professional with a passion for community development? The City of Nacogdoches is seeking a dedicated Planning Coordinator to join our Planning & Zoning Department.

About The Role:

Provide high-level administrative and technical support, playing a key role in municipal planning and permitting process. You will be instrumental in ensuring community growth aligns with municipal policies and regulations.

Key Responsibilities:
  • Collect and analyze data on land use, demographics and zoning regulations.
  • Review zoning codes, land use regulations and development proposals to ensure compliance and assess their impact on the community (traffic, environment, aesthetics).
  • Assist in processing applications for building permits, variances and other planning-related permits.
  • Help organize and facilitate public meetings, workshops and hearings to gather community input.
  • Prepare reports and presentation and maintain accurate up-to-date records of permits and planning documents.
  • Work closely with departments like Public Works and Parks & Recreation to coordinate planning efforts.
What You'll Need:
  • An Associate’s degree in urban planning, public administration, environmental science or a related field, plus one (1) to three (3) years of experience in city/municipal government.
  • Strong knowledge of city management policies and administrative procedures.
  • Proficiency in software tools such as Microsoft Office and GIS is necessary.
  • Critical ability to work independently, prioritize multiple deadlines and make independent judgements to resolve issues.
  • Exceptional communication (oral and written) and analytical skills.
